Sakae Sushi has become my family’s favourite weekend dining place! Even Jordan my youngest son is always saying he wants to eat sushi at the froggy place. Which is why I was real glad that when Sakae Sushi launches the special Chinese New Year menu last week with some great promotions and giveaways, read on for more.
During Chinese New Year gatherings, we definitely must toss some yee sang and I always loved Sakae Sushi’s yee sang that is full of seafood like Salmon, Jelly fish and scallop.
Yew June (centre), General Manager of Marketing for Sakae Sushi Malaysia tossing Yee Sang
This year, it gets even more special as we have add-ons to increase the ingredient. The 4 types of add-ons available are: Salmon Sashimi, Chuka Hotate (seasoned scallop), Chuka Kurage (Jellyfish)  and Chuka Mekabu (Seaweed). The Fortune Salmon Yee Sang is available in two sizes: Success Yee Sang which serves 2-3 pax priced at RM29.98 and Money Yee Sang which serves 6-8 pax priced at RM56.98 and both are available for dine-in and take away. Back in my hometown, I always stop by Sakae Sushi to tapau back for my family dinner!
The seaweed add-on at RM4.99Â Chuka Mekabu
The seasoned scallops or Chuka Hotate is at RM6.99. This is the only add-on that is not already inside the Fortune Yee Sang, so this is a worthy add, and the taste really suits and complements the rest of the ingredients.
Jellyfish or Chuka Kurage (RM6.99) and Salmon Sashimi Add-on (RM12.99) are a must for me as these are my two fav ingredients, and check out how thick the salmon is sliced.
Pour the special citrus-infused sauce on the yee sang and add the crackers and it is time to toss to good health and prosperity this year! We have to be gentle a bit as the plate used is not those wide-rimmed ones that we can toss high and not spill all over.
After the joy and happiness of tossing yee sang, surely we need more food to complete the Chinese New Year meal.
Happiness Treasures Combo above is priced at RM98 comprises both the Money Yee Sang and a sumptuous variety of mouth-watering sushi selections. This sushi set features a delectable variety of Sakae’s signature sushi favourites such as Hana Maki, California Hoso Maki, Salmon Sushi, Tamago Sushi, Soft Shell Crab Maki, Kani Salad Inari, Mini Ebi Tempura Sushi, Kappa Maki and Kani Maki. There is enough for young and old, my son Josiah loves the Salmon Sushi and Tempura Sushi so much.
Another great set of fried seafood is the Golden Abundance priced at RM49.90. This plate consists of five signature golden offerings (Soft Shell Crab, Mini Ebi Tempura, Itoyoridai Katsu, Fried Hotate and Tempura Kani)Â and it is served with a tangy accompaniment of spicy mayonnaise. The seafood is super fresh an my favourite is the Fried Hotate, crunchy on the outside and so soft inside, This is indeed a child-friendly dish too, the spicy mayonnaise is just a little spicy.
We enjoyed a few more ala carte amazing dishes and this is a new one Salmon Cheese Roll (RM16.99) which includes both my favourite things, salmon and cheese, wrapping the cucumber and crabstick and egg roll, I love it, it’s so soft and cheesy with one bite plus it’s topped with a drop of spicy mayo.
While dining on all these dry good, we certainly would be craving some hot warm soup, in comes Nabemono – Salmon Kabuto Nabe (RM19.99). This is chicken soup cooked in a hotpot, and I love the large pieces of fried salmon with mushrooms and vegetables and cute fish cake. This is soup that really literally warms the heart.
Next we had the Hotate Mentaiyaki (RM10.99 for 2) and it is actually baked scallops in mentaiko (marinated pollock and cod roe) sauce, very appetizing.
We also savoured the Salmon Mentaiyaki (18.99) another great dish for mentaiyaki lovers, which I think is a taste that if you love it, there is no turning back.
I always say this, that a beautiful meal must end with a beautiful dessert, and this Karinto Manjyu & Green Tea Ice Cream (RM11.99) really suits the meal of the night. The ice cream is really creamy and thick and works well with the Karinto Manjyu…it’s a Japanese treat, made from flour, sugar and sweet bean paste, so ya overall rather sweet.
Check out the new Sakae Sushi friends, Rong Rong and Mon Mon, obviously Mon Mon is they monkey clad in lion dance costume and he is oh so cute. What to get this?? They have magnetic hands and can hold hands and hold the gold ingot and orange too!
