I recently searched for a new carseat, particularly a foldable one that can be used for travelling. We are travelling this Chinese New Year and I remembered the nightmare of having to lug around our very heavy 12kg and bulky Halford Convertible carseat. I had been rather pleased with the Halford, just that it is a pain to strap it up and it moves around quite a bit. Most times when travelling, we ended up just putting the carseat on the seat without strapping it, coz it was just so hard to do it while on the go.
Then I searched all over the web for a foldable seat, one that can be found in Malaysia, and thank God I found the Sunshine Kid Radian Premier on Mudah. This seat isn’t available anywhere else in Malaysia or in shopping malls. The company that sold me the seat happened to be a wholesale kids company that happened to bring in a few pieces of the Radian.
At first I was quite hesitant at the hefty price tag and the many reviews online saying how hard it is to strap the Radian to the car seat belt. Nevertheless, many other reviews also said this is the best car seat ever. Finally, we went all the way to Ara Damansara to check it out, it is still rather heavy at 10kg. But it has a nifty feature of being able to fold up the seat, making it not bulky at all. There is a strap that makes it easy to carry, if you’re strong.
After setting it up, which wasn’t much, I strapped it Forward Facing to the seat belt of my car. I was really surprised that the fit was so tight. The carseat doesn’t move even 1cm. And most of all, it was soooo easy to strap on. No clips whatsoever in hard to reach places. I particularly liked the thoughtfulness of the carseat, the back portion has a top storage area to keep all the extra straps, the safestop, and LATCH system etc. so it doesn’t hang all over the place. This carseat is also well known for being slim and able to fit 3 to the back of a small car.
Great for those with big families. Despite how tall the seat looks, it can actually be used from newborns to 7-year-olds, since it comes with extra paddings and head support. When I peer behind the cover, I was pleased to note there are thick paddings everywhere, from body to head area. Oh did I mention that this seat can be used on flights? Maybe not Malaysia Airlines, wonder why. Josiah seems to like his new seat.
