My 4 year old just recently had fever, and I only used the normal armpit thermometer and he always pushed me away as it would take some time to get the reading, furthermore, he find it too ticklish. That’s why I thought this Braun’s new infrared ear thermometer IRT6030 would be so much easier to use as it would take less than a second to get a reading. Knowing the level of the fever is so important as a little bit of difference would tell a different story immediately. We really can’t judge by just placing our palms on their foreheads like the old days.
So this is the Braun’s New Thermometer IRT6030 Thermoscan 5 that was sent to me yesterday, with the nifty hand held thermometer in its holder. Let’s look at some of it major features.
1) More Accurate – We won’t want our kids to jump up when something cold is suddenly inserted into their ears, especially not if they are having a fever right? So the tip of this thermometer is pre-warmed to 34 deg, also that makes it provide an accurate measurement each time the tip is placed inside the ear canal.
2) Unique Positioning - ExacTempâ„¢ technology uses a light and beep to confirm proper positioning once it is placed into the ear canal. Can you see that green light on the top? That shows that the positioning is right and there will be short beep.
3) Night Light Feature – The reading is really easy to read even in a dark room at night, which is when this thermometer will be used mostly.
4) Memory Function – It will recall the last reading taken each time it is turned on.
5) Safe and Hygienic – This thermometer uses a disposable lens filter LF 40 so that there will be no cross-contamination while reading remains accurate. It comes with a pack of 20 extra lens filter.
How to Use Braun’s IRT6030
- Remove the thermometer from the protective case.
2. Press to the power button. The screen will turn on.
3. Attach lens filter.
4. Fit the probe snuggly into ear canal.
5. Press and release the Start button which is the green colour button.
6. Temperature displays. In case of variance of reading, take the highest temperature as reference. That’s it, so easy.
The LF 40 Lens Filter for Braun is important to be used for accurate and more hygienic temperature monitoring. There is a temperature sensor on the tip that the Braun ThermoScan® lens filter will be covering and after every reading it is important to change the lens filter. This is so that we don’t have to clean or disinfect the sensor itself and therefore this will eliminate cross contamination. At the same time, the new Braun lens filter also ensures that any dirt or ear wax don’t go and build up and clog the sensor window, which could affect the reading in future and make it inaccurate, also it is gross right especially if you share the thermometer with the whole family. Don’t try to find other generic products to fit on the Braun thermometer too, as the Braun lens filter is designed to fit certain Braun range for total accuracy. I think any other product would cause the sensor not to work properly so ensure you get the right lens filter each time for a guaranteed result. By the way, the LF 40 is BPA and latex free.
See below steps to use the lens filter:
Step 1: place a new lens cover on the thermometer tip before each measurement.
Step 2: measure temperature with lens cover fitted on thermometer tip.
Step 3: Throw away the used lens filter after each measurement. Eject it by pressing on the button below the thermometer tip, and this red button will appear to push out the lens.
I measured both my kids and was really surprised by how fast it took. Just seconds and the reading appears on the screen. By the way, Braun is the No.1 brand among doctors.
