I was introduced to Hei Sushi last year and since then it had been one of my favourite Japanese restaurants that i visit frequently with my family. To celebrate Hei Sushi getting the Halal Certification recently, we went back for a celebration and food tasting once again.
Sashimi or Omakase Moriawase, the chef’s freshest selection for the day in Hei Sushi is super awesome as it is served in a gigantic bowl of ice. I also love the cuts being thicker than usual.
We can choose how many types we want, from 3, 4 to 5 types of different cuts. I love all sorts of it but especially the salmon (Shake) and Salmon Belly (Shake Toro). Salmon is also the best for those who many not like raw fish that much as it does not have the fishy taste.
Another of my favourite is the Maguro Steak Rikkyuyaki (RM22.99) which is very rare and sometimes out of stock here, so it was definitely my lucky day since it was available. Look at how fresh and ‘red’ is the tuna meat.
The tuna is pan-fried and glistened with sesame sauce and it’s superb to be eaten together with the steam bun slices.
After that it’s time for some Maki, this Hei Dragon Maki (RM9.99) one is topped with Avocado slices and fish roe on mayonaisse with fried tempura prawn filling .
Jackfruit Ebi Maki (RM15.99) is the most unique tasting one, with the sweetness of jackfruit really complimenting the crunchy prawns tempura.
We can’t have enough of Tempura so we ordered the Ebi Tempura (RM15.99) made with Tiger prawns. It’s very crunchy and light tasting so it’s just nice.
Chawanmushi here seems more premium than most sushi places I have been and there are two types. We had the more normal one topped with prawn and shimeji mushrooms for RM6.99. The steamed egg is smooth and not too salty.
For something more fusion and spiced up, we tried the Saba Kara (RM13.99), mackerel grilled in sweet and spicy sauce. The Saba is well cooked yet super soft and the sauce is just divine for curry and sambal lovers.
There’s another type of mackerel, Saba Yaki (RM12.99) with their signature Sambal sauce. The portion is smaller for this one but this is good for those who like the mackerel taste more as the sauce is served on the side rather than grilled together or soaked inside.
The King Platter (RM49.99) Â is the biggest platter available here and is optional as a 3 course or 5 course meal.
Specially created for the meat lovers, this platter is great for sharing amongst two persons and it consists of grilled chicken, striploin and seafood (Prawns, Squid and Salmon cooked Teppanyaki Style), served alongside mushroom and vegetables with a signature sauce.
The grilled squid Ika Teriyaki (RM14.99) is superb too. The chef must be good as the squid is not cooked too long.
If cooked too long, squid will be too rubbery and hard to chew, this one is just nice and I enjoyed it.
The feasting ends with some icy treats! Their unique ice cream is this Jackfruit Temptations (RM8.99) as the jackfruit is fried tempura style and served with vanilla ice cream topped with butterscotch syrup. This will surely be approved by Malaysians, it taste similar to roti pisang (fried banana fritters) except that it is jackfruit instead and tempura batter also makes it lighter and not oily.
I also had the Fruit Treasures (RM15.99) which is pretty large so I shared with it with my family. I love how fruity it is, as it has assorted cut fruits inside topped with three scoops of ice cream. Really cools down the body after a big feast!
