I am very excited about this performance therefore I am posting it here so that you can buy the tickets early if interested. I really really want to watch this personally.
The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will astound audiences with an exceptional programme comprising a rare oriental work by a Japanese composer, a ravishingly beautiful ‘concertante’ and a work billed ‘the greatest symphony of modern times’, all on Saturday, 5 December 2015 at 8.30 p.m. and Sunday, 6 December 2015 at 3.00 p.m. at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.
The MPO will open the concerts with Fantasy on Osaka Folk Tunes written by Hiroshi Ohguri. Premiered by the Osaka Philharmonic in 1956, this work has become one of the most popular works for wind ensembles in Japan.
Next, the MPO will present Mozart’s Symphonie concertante in E flat, written in 1778 when he was in Paris. He was commissioned to write this widely popular work for the city’s leading concert series. It incorporates multiple soloists into a concerto format.
To perform this work are the MPO’s very own oboist Simon Emes, clarinetist Gonzalo Esteban, horn player Grzegorz Curyla and bassoonist Alexandar Lenkov.
The programme will close with Elgar’s Symphony No.1 in A flat, a work based on the string sonority; elegant, smooth, mellow and full. Written in 1908, its melodic lines with wide intervals give a personal touch to many of Elgar’s themes.
All concerts will be conducted by Kazuyoshi Akiyama, who has held prestigious positions in the American and Vancouver Symphony Orchestras. He has also collaborated with the Royal Philharmonic, NDR Symphony, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and New York Philharmonic. He is the recipient of numerous honours in Japan including the Person of Cultural Merit in 2014 for his outstanding cultural contributions.
Be part of an unforgettable musical tribute with the MPO, only at DFP.
