If you have never been to watch an Orchestra, make this your first show! This is THE show that I really really wanted to attend, unfortunately that weekend I will be away overseas. This is going to be a most amazing sound experience unlike the classics, if you are into instrumental alternative and more jazzy tunes, this is the one not to be missed. Here’s a description of the whole concert from the press release.
The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) is proud to present an astounding showcase themed Kristjan Järvi Sound Experience & Ole Edvard Antonsen Musical Landscapes on Saturday, 10 October 2015 at 8.30 p.m. and Sunday, 11 October 2015 at 3.00 p.m. at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.
Creative forces in today’s music scene, Estonian conductor Kristjan Järvi and Norwegian trumpet virtuoso Ole Edvard Antonsen are known for their innovative multi-genre collaborations. The concerts will witness the pioneering collaboration between the artists and the MPO; they will capture the highly-charged musical landscape of intoxicating classical/folk/jazz fusion that will put the audiences in trance. The result would be an electrifying and mind-blowing music experience.
Earning a reputation as one of the most innovative programmers in the classical music scene, Järvi is a Music Director of the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony and Gstaad Festival Orchestras, founder of the New York based classical hip-hop group Absolute Ensemble and the Baltic Sea Youth Philharmonic. He has collaborated with London Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra (Washington DC) and NHK Symphony (Japan). As a recording artist, he has more than 60 albums under his belt, from Hollywood soundtracks such as Cloud Atlas to his eponymous series Kristjan Järvi Sound Project, an album that takes a fresh look at old music with concepts that transcend borders of music.
Antonsen, on the other hand, is one of Norway’s biggest international trumpeters, having played as soloist in 40 cities including Sydney, Tokyo, New York and Vienna. His remarkable versatility as a musician means he is equally at home working with symphonic orchestras (such as London Symphony and Orchestra St Martin in the Field) and collaborating with pop, rock and jazz musicians (such as Lisa Stanfield, Level 42’s Mark King and John Miles).
For the debut performances at DFP, the artists will be accompanied by Eirik Berge (keyboards), Tom Erik Antonsen (bass) and Per Hillestad (drums).
The repertoire list will include Stravinsky’s exhilarating Firebird Suite and engaging works composed by Antonsen such as Aurora, Mikkel, La Luna, Vidda, Svalbard and Musical Landscapes.
Be dazzled with a dose of fusion music, a rare offering for true music lovers, only at DFP!

Those names are real tongue-twisters. Thankfully, music transcends language, culture and other differences. I hope MPO will do a mini tour and bring the orchestra to Ipoh and Penang.
