I got this little ebook and I find it’s suitable to be read to babies and toddlers. This is a story of Hermie the Caterpillar going about his daily life but always remembering to thank God. He thanked God for the very basic things in life, like a roof over his head, food, for his many friends, for the times he get to play with them, for God’s creation around him, like the trees. I love how he said the best way to thank God is not just saying it but to be kind and to obey. That is one important aspect I want my toddler to learn, that being thankful isn’t just saying thank you but to obey what we have to say and to be kind to others. Furthermore, the words are easy to read since it’s more like a poem. It helps that there is also a Hermie the Caterpillar animated cartoon. I think kids relate better when they learn in both media, books and animated cartoons. They just get really excited about the book after that.
John and Josiah read this ebook together on the iPad this morning and the pictures are very clear and crisp. Due to the shortness of the book, only 4 pages, I think it is suitable for even infants and younger babies if you want to cultivate the reading habit from young. At Josiah’s age of nearly 3, he has the attention span to read through over 50 pages in a seating. Nevertheless, this will be one of many books we will read together with him daily.
