It’s great to be able to watch videos online on youtube.com. Somehow, we just prefer to be able to download the videos to our pc, go offline, burn them to vcd, watch them elsewhere, on tv or show off to friends. So how do you do that when in need? Here’s the top 5 easiest ways.
1) http://vixy.net/ – Easiest on the list for non-technical people is to go to this site. Absolutely no downloads or installation necessary. Just copy and paste the url of the video from Youtube into the text box, and then choose what format you want to convert the downloaded video to. You can choose from AVI for Windows, MOV for Mac, Mp4 for Ipod/PSP or your mp4 player or 3gp for mobile phones. This is by far the most convenient method to get that file that you need urgently. Obviously I think this is the best method.
2) http://keepvid.com/ : Keepvid lets you download videos from Youtube directly to your computer, the only problem is it’s in FLV format (flash video), so you’d need an FLV player to play the vids. If you don’t like that, you’d need to take extra steps, like downloading a video converter that converts FLV to other video formats like AVI or MOV. I recommend using Super. Using keepvid is as easy as copying and pasting the url of the video to download, click the download link that appears after, making sure you follow the instructions given. It’s got a nice clean site that doesn’t clutter.
3) http://www.youtubex.com/ : works just the same as above,but more details to look into. Like having to right click the download link first and not just left clicking immediately to get the download window. You’re also given to option to share the video link…
4) Videodownloader firefox addon : If you use Firefox, just install this addon and it appears as a small icon on the lower right corner of your browser. Upon visiting Youtube, let the video finish loading then click on the addon icon. A download link appears and you can easily download that vid to your computer. As in way no. 2, you still need to convert the FLV file to other formats to watch elsewhere. This doesn’t seem to work all the time for me though.
