When To Give

Growing up, we are taught to give during special occasions, birthdays, Teacher’s day, Mother’s day, Christmas etc. These are important times we learn to part with something of value to us and give it to another to make them happy. Most times, our gifts are expected. My mum will know come Mother’s day that each one of us four girls will have made her a premium design card. My best friend will know that on her birthday, she would receive a gift from me. Teachers in school anticipate class parties and many gifts and thank yous on Teacher’s day.

However, I just had a thought. Have we ever tried giving when it’s least expected? Giving out of the blue for no special reason other than to bless. Maybe even giving anonymously without expecting anything in return. Too many time on Christmases, we feel obliged to give back when we receive a gift, obliged to buy a certain number of gifts that could stress us out.

How about just giving on a non celebration day, I believe it will be triple the joy for the one that receives as well as for the one that gives; joy is infectious after all.

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day, I haven’t got anything prepared for mum though I have the idea of what to give. Looks like I can only give it much later, hopefully she will be surprised by then.
