It’s great to know that Malaysia is kind of moving forward in the Internet Broadband biz and having a new company for competition with the latest offer from YTL, called YES 4G. They offer a few devices but I am most interested in the YES Huddle.
I am online most of the time on my iPhone, and the USB Dongle defeats the purpose. I liked that YES markets the Huddle together with the ‘new’ iPad (nearly one year old di). People actually has an option not to buy an iPad 3g and save the $$ to get the Huddle instead. After all, one still need to pay for 3g and some telcos charge 10sen for 10kb crazy pricing. With YES, its only 9 sen for 3Mb, big difference. Plus with rebates, your bill only gets cheaper and not more expensive the more you use, kind of at least.
However, you do have to reload at least RM30 monthly. If you reloaded RM50 but only used RM20, YES will still cut RM30 from your account. So the advise is, don’t reload a lot at one time, unless u keep checking your usage and ensure you used up to RM30, which is around 1Gb. Not too hard to reach if you watch a lot of online movies.
Although I think this is great tech, I still have my reservations. I still think they should offer an unlimited data package, especially for the home and huddle, considering that it’s meant for sharing. I can imagine people fighting when one user used more data and the other less, who’s gonna pay for it etc. Especially within a family, when someone used up the data and another couldn’t use it anymore. I like the peace of mind of just paying one figure and not having to worry about what the bill looks like later. Well, still waiting for that perfect solution that can make me happy to cancel my Streamyx line.
