Fancy a random surprise?

Do you remember those days when we used to write letters? I mean those with stamps, that you need to write on nice paper, bring to the post office, get it sent? Being very sentimental I still keep all the letters I used to receive, in those pre internet eras. Even when I first came to uni, when emails already exist, me and my sisters, and even my dad, we used to send each other letters. In fact, until today, my dad wish I would still send him letters, but being caught in the frenzy of a speedy lifestyle, it has become a hard thing to do.

Recently, I joined this website called Postcrossing.com. I wonder if it was from the same people of Bookcrossing.com? Anyways, what’s cool and fun here is you have to send a postcard (max of 5) each time to a random member of the site across the world. Once the person receives your card, he/she will register it in the site, and your address will be given to another random person who will in return send you a card. So, basically, it’s a random surprise in your post box when you do receive them. I think this is such a fun and cool idea, those who receive cards even scan and post the cards on a Flickr Group.

Ok the first card I sent to Finland, it was a rather generic one. It was one of the cards I kept from 10 years ago, remember those days in KL in those shops like Starbucks and Coffeebean, where postcards are free to be picked up, they were like those mass advert cards. Yeah, I used to collect them for the designs.

Anyways, today I was going to send my 2nd card to Czech Rep, and this girl I am sending to likes to display her cards on her uni room wall. So, I took the time to custom make a card. I haven’t been making use of my Canon photo printer, and I got these stack of photo papers lying around.

But not all the papers work well with the printer, I found out today, only the Canon Photo Paper Pro works perfectly.

This will be perfect for my postcards, as it’s thicker at 245g/m2 and after printing, the card looks like it’s laminated and the ink totally doesn’t run! Love it! So I photoshopped some pics I took from my hometown couple of years ago, about the Kuching Friendship Park. And voila, my very first postcard hot off the press…I mean the…printer.

Of course, the back of the card has to be quite standard, with the address column and stamp column, else Pos Malaysia won’t get it sent!
