Yesterday was my birthday, so I thought I would go shop for a good FM transmitter for my iPod Nano so I can listen to all my tunes easily in the car. Right now, every time I get a new album I have to burn a copy on CD before I can listen to it, as MYVIs only come with CD players and not MP3 players. I’d be too occupied driving to change the CD so I end up listening to the same CD over and over again till I get sick of it. So, I had really wanted to get an FM transmitter suitable for the iPod, but not any rm40 sort, since those might not really be able to transmit properly.
So, yesterday I dropped by Machines at Mid Valley. They only stock Griffin, Belkin and another brand I cannot remember, but most of their transmitters are either made for iPod Video or the older versions of Nano. I approached a very new looking sales person, only to be shocked by his apparent lack of product knowledge. All I asked was a simple question, “Do you have FM transmitters suitable for the Nano 3G?”
At first, he seemed not to understand what are FM transmitters. He was looking at in car chargers instead. I had to tell him where to find the FM transmitters and had to explain to him that it was to be used to listening through the car audio system. He seemed blur but went ahead to the corner where the product was stocked. He also started starring and flipping through the products and reading them, something I already did. Then he blankly told me, these are the FM transmitters (duh)... Then I went on to ask him about of the products that I was interested in, but it was apparently made for the slimmer Nano. I wanted to know whether the new Nano would fit in. He continued to stare at it and seemed not to understand my question. In fact, he doesn’t seem to know how fat is the iPod as he started showing me those with docks that were so slim that no other iPods can be connected.
At this point I was rather frustrated, that Machines doesn’t even have what I want when I really want it. I wish I could have gone to Epicentre instead.
I was just looking for something chargeable in car, black and simple, not bulky..like the Kensington’s Digital FM transmitter for the iPod.
Or the TransDock micro by DLO.
Or Belkin’s Tunebase…none of th ese were available at Machines. Is there not much of a market for it?
It’s worth to buy a new stereo with AUX input instead.
Cheaper in the long run..otherwise it will blow yr IPOD.
I have a Video….so I know

how does it blow my iPod?
1) Never connect anything to your car unless it’s 12V. USB is 5V. Made in China resonance resistors are known to blow after a while and fills the power line to 12V and thus FRY YOUR IPOD. The fuse is to make sure it don’t over load the ampere, not voltage.
2) Connecting USB adapters to the Power of the Car…will surely damage it as the resistor is there to make sure it’s only 12V input, but when U crank yr car up, it drops to 8V and ups to 14V thus disable the rectifier circuit.
So if that spikes, it spikes your HDD or Memory bank…so will you risk it? Even with USB Stick connected to a PC for a long while or even car stereo gets fried..what about yr lovely ipod?? It’s the music that is very precious, and in my case, my NCIS videos.
Best regards
