I was back for a pretty long trip to Kuching last CNY. Apparently many people missed me in Kajang hehe. So what was I up to for so long there?
Well, first of coz was catching up with family and friends. Second was to catch up with Kuching food.
Tomato fried kueh tiaw
We had our Eve dinner at the usual seafood place where my parents hangout nearly everynite. It was the usual fish, tomato kueh tiaw, crabs, midin fair. All my faves, hehe.
This time round, I thought I was gonna go for that high school reunion thingy. Ended up not going as most of my close friends were not going either. It seems it wasn’t a formal reunion thing after all. Oh well. Don’t know when someone is going to organise the 20 years reunion one day. Anyways, I did manage to meet up with a few close friends.
But first about the days of CNY. First day as usual was our open house. Mostly my parents’ friends would come and bring the festive mood together. So we serve home cooked buffet, from chicken, to pineapple rice, to lamb curry, vege etc. My mum loves cooking ya. All I did was do stuff like pour drinks and spike people’s drinks. 🙂
It was quite tiring by the time the whole thing ended. The next day was the mandatory visiting of relatives. There was my granny’s place, my aunties’ places and all. We are all not too close to all our cousins and their kids. So the CNY visiting is like a once a year catch up on their lives thing.
As you may have heard, Kuching is breeding ground for nice, individualistic styled eateries and cafes. During my trip back, I visited fancy places like Travillion, Bla bla bla, Denis’ place and Tao Cafe. My fave was probably Tao Cafe, a ver Zen concept cafe that serves very highly priced blended coffee and some pricey cakes, as well as organic booster drinks. I love the deco, nice and cosy. Not too dark for photography.

meeting the gals
I first went there to meet old old friends, friends that go back 20 years. Actually went back there a second time bring my sis. Coffee is seriously pricey tho, more than Starbucks.
We were just chatting and wondering what’s with all these many many cafes with blooming business in Kuching. Kuching people just don’t go for those franchise kind of places like Coffee Bean and sad Kenny Rogers that closed down. However, they are much willing to pay for these cafes.
On the second week, I took a trip to Sarikei.
When I woke up that early morning to catch the 830am boat, it was pouring heavily. I still boarded the express boat anyways, due to the shorter time to get there (4 hours!). It was not a very nice ride, as the waves were high and the boat was rocking side to side badly, I don’t get sea sick easily, but I must say I was not feeling awesome at all. Plus they were showing the Thai black magic movie (which I hate!) which caused me to feel worse. What with all the rocking and screaming. Sarikei is fantastically small, so there’s not much to do. On the first day there, we went to Sebangkoi Park. A really nicely made and preserved park yet with good tracks. Jungle tracked half of the place, and then went swimming.
Nice or not my waterfall pic? This was shot using Night Shot, must be placed on tripod on in my case, on the wet steps!
A funny sign in Sarikei market
On the second day, we went to Sibu. Since there’s no car to drive, we took multiple transports. From Sarikei, we rode on the bike to Bintangor. From there, we took a bus to a place which the name I cannot remember, and then we took a boat to Sibu. It was my first time to Sibu, and amazing the place is not as small as I thought. It was quite packed with people and cars…and had a nice mall.
Oh well it was nice trip thruout. Check out the rest of the pics on the album as you click any of the pics from here.
See, not surprising that I said I missed you right? Others also missed you hehehe
