So this is something that I’ve wanted for a long time coz I just have so many videos and I’m tired of burning DVDs. Then there is the odd case when ISO files are so large, they can’t get into a normal DVD-R but needs a double layer, which is pricey. So finally we got this player, a Taiwan make.
It’s a little sleek black box that fits nicely into our Home entertainment sets without looking out of place. Finally it came with a HDMI cable as I heard earlier versions didn’t include it. So we got it plugged in, and the only thing that needs setting up is the date and time. After that it’s pretty much on the go. I just plug in my external HDD and it reads everything easily and quickly.
My HD files play widescreen but my none HD files will just fill 4:3 of the screen, unlike on TV. It’s fine for me, not so much issues with that. The one issue I have is that it lacked a Youtube app. In the Internet option, it has apps for Picasa, Flickr, RSS, Internet Tv and Radio, and Weather. But no youtube. Boo. Oh by the way, the Air version means it’s got internal Wireless-N capabilities, so that’s cool. However, with my lagging 1Mbps Streamyx at the moment, it’s kinda useless still. Can’t wait to get UNIFI.
Besides being able to read from external HDD, the player also has an e-sata port and various card readers, so photos on SD Card can be easily shown off too. I also like that it can play music from my HDD without having to turn on the TV. That’s smart.
Available from Xenontech for only RM388.
