Previously if you wanna eat ikan bakar, you have to go to one of those lalat invested (flies) stalls, open air and hot places in Kajang. You know how flies are so attracted to the stench of raw fish. Well, now you can eat your favourite ikan bakar in a nicely decorated cafe, with nice lighting and no flies.
Sekinchan Ikan Bakar just opened in Reko Central a few days ago and we paid a visit there. I did not get the picture but as you enter, there is a fish counter where all the raw fish are displayed, dead though. It is a nicely enclosed glass cabinet for you to pick and choose your fish, so you can be safe assured no flies are lurking around and sharing your meal.
After taking the fish order, you can sit anywhere in the spacious dining areas. They make sure you know fish can’t be ordered at the table by sticking a big sticker on every table, “Please order your fish at the fish counter”.
At the table you can order your drinks and side dishes. The keropok ikan looks good and comes in a generous amount. But we just went for the healthier option of ulam (raw vegetables).
We ordered Ikan Keli, costing at RM8 per fish. The price is not shown anywhere though, you’ll only know when paying.
Taste wise? Perfect. It’s not too spicy, good for me, and the fish is very fresh, soft and sweet. I even know how to eat ulam, eat it with the chilies, although not used to it.
This is a nice option for Kajang folks tired of the same old food, mamak stalls and chinese food courts.
There is another branch at Cheras Selatan, just before Jusco… wonder if that is good too 🙂
