This is such a backdated post. The CNY long holidays forced me to fast from blogging since I was in places without WIFI and computer.
Josiah turned 1 on 5 Feb 2010. Since it was a working day, we postponed the big celebration do to Saturday, the next day. But on Friday, we took him out for lunch, and my sis-in-law cooked Mee Suah for dinner, it is our Chinese tradition to eat Mee Suah during birthdays as this noodle is loooong and represents long life.
Anyways, on the Friday afternoon, we just took him to Secret Recipe and got him a raspberry cheese cake, he ate a little bit of it, but we ate it all of course.
Then the next day, we invited a few friends and family for the party. It was not really easy to plan a kids first birthday do, wondering to make it big or small. In the end it was pretty medium, we had like 20 over people and a simple catered meal.
There was no time for any deco, so I just cut up and paste some colourful cards on our wall, for the sake of photography!
We decided to make it an afternoon party, though not good in such hot weather. It was impossible to hang out outside to eat, so most people were indoors. Nevertheless, Josiah was totally engaging himself with the guests, playing away, without a care in the world.
He even took a nap in between making everyone wait for him to wake up and cut the cake.
The cake is from cakebycath.blogspot.com. I happened to surf into her site when looking for fondant cakes, and really thank God I found her. Not only her cakes are not priced crazily, but they are nice and good to eat! I ordered 2 kg of carrot cake with design and 30 cupcakes, and the theme was teddy bear!
He was all smiles when the whole room started singing the birthday song to him. I bet he felt like a VIP, you know how babies love all the attention showered on them. Well, we had to blow the candles for him of course, let’s see if he knows how to blow it himself next year.
We just thank God that we survived the 1 year of parenting, it has been nothing but joy and bliss for us as a family. Here’s looking forward to another year with our little toddler.
Happy Birthday Josiah
