I know the Bible says to “give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.†1 Thessalonians 5:1 but I never knew actually being grateful literally will change who you become. I naturally don’t like grumpy people, I mostly can’t stand people who mumble and complain over the littlest things, but I don’t think I was consciously giving thanks for every little thing in my life either. Sometimes, when asked for testimonies, we only think of mega things that happened but hardly for small things, like thanking God we have a job, thanking God for this morning’s breakfast, or that friend or even bad circumstances, like trials and temptations. We hardly think of thanking God for testing us to give us more patience and faith.
Anyways, this site lists a bunch of actual scientific research studies that showed the power of being grateful for everything. Well, scientists are just beginning to find out that being grateful makes a person healthier, happier, satisfied with life, more positive and simply bursting with vitality, but this is nothing new in the Bible, because giving thanks and being grateful for everything and every circumstance is clearly God’s will. So that’s why in obedience to His word, I want to give thanks, even on days I don’t automatically have much to be grateful for, to at least reflect and think of something to give thanks to, even if it’s just for the oxygen we can breath in.
Today, I mostly want to thank God for His providence, particularly financially, as I am going through this transition to motherhood. I still remember how God literally provided by pouring money from the sky in the months before our wedding, when there’s so much to spend, somehow that was the first months my blog generated a large enough income to pay for my decorations and ribbons and little things like that. Well, the few months towards my baby coming out, when I know expenditure is going to hike and is already, what with all the preparations we need to make, from gynae fees to getting the baby and mummy stuffs, all of a sudden, through my blog once again, I received so much extra income that it seemed to have dropped from heaven. Income from my blog is now actually more than my day job salary, and I’m saving it all up for the time baby arrives.
Now I must add that God’s providence comes hand in hand with our giving. Luke 6:38, “Give and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.†It has to be our choice to give happily and gratefully.
Give thanks! 🙂
Amen!
