Needless to say, the Ipod range is gaining so much popularity for both Mac and PC users. With the range growing as well, there are more things to consider when you knew you’ve caught the Ipod mania and are hypnotised to buy one. Before you blindly fork out your thousands to get one, please read this to evaluate your needs first.
There are basically 3 different kinds of Ipod.
a) Ipod Photo/Color
b) Ipod Shuffle
c) Ipod Mini
d) Ipod Nano
The first thing to consider is definitely your budget.
Here’s the complete latest retail price range in Malaysia:
Range A – Ipod Photo
Ipod 20 GB color – RM1427
Ipod 20GB U2 Special Edition color – RM1594
Ipod Photo 60 Gb – RM1971
Range B – Ipod Shuffle
Ipod Shuffle 512Mb – RM483
Ipod Shuffle 1Gb – RM644
Range C – Ipod Mini
Ipod Mini 4Gb – RM938
Ipod Mini 6Gb – RM1183
- comes in Blue, Silver, Green and Pink.
Range D – Ipod Nano
Ipod Nano 2Gb – RM969
Ipod Nano 4Gb – RM1219
It seems the first generation Ipod without colour screen isn’t selling anymore. On the Apple site, they’re not even selling Ipod Mini.
The 2nd thing to consider is, what do you need it for? Do you want to use it just to listen to music, use it as a thumb drive or use it as an external hard drive to move huge files. For example, I would need the Ipod for moving files in Gigabytes conveniently from my office PC to my Mac, at the same thing as a media player. Therefore, the minis and nanos are out of question for me as the max 4Gb is too limited.
If you just wanna look cool, hey go for Nano. If you need to jog around with music, go for Nano or Shuffle. What other needs are there?
Anyways, I think the bigger the size on Gb of the Ipod, the more worth it is. Therefore, the most worthwhile buy for me is the Ipod Photo 60Gb. It’d make up for the lack of size in my Ibook. But still, a normal external drive is so much cheaper huh. So do you really really need an Ipod? To quote Apple, “Which Ipod are you?”
Great review! I’ll probably go for black nano, looks good. 😀
