It is common for people to wish each other ‘Good luck’ when either one is going to face a challenging situation, eg. auditions, exams, asking a girl out etc. As a Christian, I always think that the word LUCK itself should never be used. Simply because I do not believe anything can happen by luck. Luck is defined as “1 a : a force that brings good fortune or adversity b : the events or circumstances that operate for or against an individual
2 : favoring chance; also : SUCCESS” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). Notice that it says ‘Force’ and ‘chance’.
It is clearly stated in the Bible that God the sovereign Lord is in control of everything that happens, even before you pass your exams, God has planned that you pass, even before you met your other half, God has planned for your paths to cross.
I searched out a site that wrote:
“When a person rolls the dice to play a board game, God may sometimes cause the dice to land a certain way, but I would guess that more often than not in such inconsequential matters, He may allow the dice to land as his laws of nature would determine without any active involvement. But even when He is not actively involved, how the dice land are still under His sovereignty.
So it is for any event of life, no matter how small (Matthew 10:29-31) or how large (Daniel 4:35; Proverbs 21:1), God is sovereign over all (Ephesians 1:11; Psalm 115:3; Isaiah 46:9-10) and thus nothing is merely the matter of chance.” (http://www.gotquestions.org/luck.html)
So, instead of saying Good luck next time, why not say All the best, God bless etc. If luck determines your success, then why work for it. But if your success is determined by prayers, efforts and blessings of God, you can be sure all things will turn out well if you walk in the righteous paths He has planned for you.
