The Chinese celebrates many festivals throughout the year, the biggest being the Chinese New Year, but there are others along the way like the coming Mooncake Festival. Everytime there is such a major Chinese festival, the families must gather for a big meal. Yes, we celebrate by eating lots, that’s basically it.
The Chinese community in Malaysia celebrates the Mooncake Festival this Tuesday, Sept 25th. My mum called on Sat night to remind me to have a sumptuous meal on that night. I was going to be busy that night so we had the sumptuous meal earlier, last night.
We went to this newly opened restaurant in Sg Chua Kajang, called Hoe How Fook Restaurant. Basically a seafood restaurant. I do not know how to call Chinese dishes in any language, so we had to put our stomaches into the hands of the friendly waitress who recommended some dishes. (Sorry for out of focus photos, only got my handphone)
Free peanuts anyone?
First off was the salted vegetable tauhu soup. There were some prawns, (a couple) and some cuttlefish in it too. Tasty.
Next is some vege with fake abalone, a kind of mushroom actually. Hey isn’t this my mum’s recipe. I can cook this, but I’d usually cook it with Chinese Cabbage. Apparently this is their signature dish.
Lastly the fish, very expensive, very delicious. Cost about RM40+! We really didn’t know what we ordered. I just know it tasted great.
So that was our very sumptuous Chinese dinner.
Didn’t get to eat many mooncakes this time, compared to previous years. I’d never bought those expensive mooncakes outside before, usually my mum makes them. But this year, I don’t have a chance to taste them! Sadly missed…
