All abroad with the MPO as gleeful globetrotters and intrepid travelers explore the rhythms, melodies and musical traditions of faraway lands. MPO Resident Conductor Gerard Salonga will lead this family-themed voyage of global music with a classical flair.
First, the MPO will bring you to Sabah with a song about a popular landmark, Jambatan Tamparuli (the Tamparuli bridge), showcasing the traditional sounds of Malaysia, its music reflecting the diverse culture of its people.
Then, the MPO takes off to Mongolia with Borodin’s In the Steppes of Central Asia as part of the 25th anniversary of the reign of Tsar Alexander II. Enjoy the eastern melodies from Russia before the MPO brings you to Galanta, Slovakia, where audience will enjoy some folk and gypsy dances in Dances of Galanta composed by Hungarian artist Kodaly.
Next, the MPO will travel to Paris performing Delibes’ Coppelia: Entr’acte and Waltz, a sumptuous music with details that belie its length and waltz that glides mesmerizingly.
Vienna is the next destination when the MPO presents music from the Strauss family. Radetzky March and Cuckoo Polka will entice audience to the rousing upbeat and merriment of the dances.
From Europe, the MPO will then cross the continent and oceans to present a selection from Copland’s cowboy ballet, Rodeo, and later, to Mexico to perform Danzon No.2, one of Marquez’s fascinating music, bringing the concert to a rousing end!
