Reading is so important for me as a writer and blogger. I started reading to my boys even while they were still in the womb. It became a little challenging after they were born to be able to read like I used to, but now I have the privilege of reading WITH them, that means we read books appropriate for their ages. Scholastic books came to mind when I started looking for good books to buy for them. As you know, there are so many different books in the market, but not all are actually suitable and able to develop the little minds in different aspects such as their IQ, EQ and CQ. Now, you might wonder what alphabet I am trying to say here, just read on to find out.
These QQ books by Scholastic are especially made for ages 3-4. They also have a set for 1-2 and 4-5 years but I will be reviewing this set as they were for Jordan who is aged 3. The books come in a set of 3 for what I mentioned before, IQ, EQ and CQ.
This is the first book in the series, QQ Books: Intelligence Booster for Young Learners IQ.
IQ or Intelligence Quotient is a measure of our capacity to absorb and retain information, and our problem solving and spatial imagery abilities. Children with higher IQ are generally more successful in their adult lives. These age-appropriate books are full of brain stimulating and memory training activities to help boost your child’s development.
Basically, this book is about the illustrations, which are very beautiful. My 3 year old loves the book immediately, and really for the first time, he always asked for this book so he can look at the pictures. We also tell him stories from the pictures and imagine new storylines with it.
The stickers are of great quality. Even if you stick it wrongly, it is easy to remove and stick again.
The brothers have a great time working together to find the right stickers and to stick them together. It is a priceless time spent with them doing this activity.
The 2nd book is QQ Books: Intelligence Booster for Young Learners CQ.
CQ or Creative Quotient, is a measure of our ability to create new ideas. CQ can be developed by stimulating young children’s imagination and curiosity. These age-appropriate books nurture imagination and liberal thinking. Children gets to learn how to combine concepts to create new ones, tear apart things and process to change the components, challenges common norms and more.
Jordan is able to use this book and be creative with new imagination and ideas forming every time. Even Josiah who is 6, loves this book a lot. In fact, they are always reading this together. Thanks to Scholastic books, the boys are now very excited for ‘bed time’ as they know that we will read together before really sleeping. Sometimes, we might go out and come home late so we would suggest that we skip reading that night, to Jordan’s dismay! He would repeat, Jordan hasn’t read a book yet! He won’t stop until we really read with him.
The 3rd book in the same series is called QQ Books: Intelligence Booster for Young Learners EQ.
EQ or Emotional Intelligence Quotient, is a measure of our ability to manage emotions and be empathetic of others. Children with higher EQ has more self-esteem and social skills. These age-appropriate books will help your child learn how to behave and repsond to situations around them, and how to communicate with others.
This is Jordan’s favourite book in the series because it features musical instruments. Jordan is in fact very musical and loves and knows most orchestral instruments by now.
He was super excited with the instrument stickers and managed to complete the page all by himself.
Once when I wasn’t looking, I saw him reading like this on the bed. Besides the instruments page, the book is about people, kids, social activities and more that could affect and improve the reader’s EQ. All the books above are priced at USD6.99 each.
The boys love Legos so naturally they really really love this book Lego Reader: City Adventures: Fire Truck to the Rescue!. I didn’t know that Scholastic have Lego story books prior to this! In this book, there’s a fire in LEGO City. The fire-fighters are in their fire truck and on their way. With their tall ladder and the very best equipment they’ll save the day!
The book I received is for 4-8 years old and at Level 1 which is for Pre-K readers.
The pages are very colourful with the picture spanning two pages, there aren’t a lot of words so it’s great for beginning readers, and definitely will be an attraction to all children who loves Legos, wait, don’t all children love Legos? This book is available at only USD3.99.
The last book is called Branches – Monkey Me #2:Monkey Me and the Pet Show written by Timoth Roland.
Clyde is an energetic student who just can’t sit still. When he gets too excited, he transforms into a real monkey! When the class bully challenges Clyde’s “monkey me” to the pet talent show, he has no choice but to participate. But when the other pets start to disappear, Clyde uses his inner monkey to save the day. This is suitable for ages 6-8 so it is just perfect for Josiah. It’s available at USD4.99.
There are some parts that are like comics…
...with most pages looking like above. This makes an interesting read even for me, the story is really funny. Josiah finds it super funny as well.
Reading as a passion and a habit should be started as young as possible. It really doesn’t matter when they actually start reading and recognising the words to be able to pronounce it themselves, what’s most important is the activity of reading together as a family. Even now when Jordan cannot read the words, we read it to him and let him repeat the words. He really enjoys it and feels proud of himself and that in itself increases his self esteem too, besides, the books are super fun and it’s impossible to keep the children away from it too. These books and more from Scholastic are available from certain school-based book clubs and major bookstores.
