Today’s a good day, coz I’m on leave. No, not that I catch snake (direct translation of hokkien ‘liat chua’ which means something like purposely running away from work to do something else out of laziness – Leona (2004)). YEa , no not coz of that, tho I only took off last Wed, which means I gotta suffer 2 days pay cut this month! Oh not maybe 3 days, coz gotta take leave some more end of this month.
Anyways, I had a meeting with my supervisor, who’s rather bubbly today, in a really good mood I presumed. A few unpredictable things happened today.
Firstly, I reached Serdang KTM, and was crossing the bridge to get to the bus stop this morning. I was listening to Rudy, I think on Hitz, so I was pretty unaware of my surroundings, when something with claws hit the back of my head! I thought it was some weirdo but all I saw as I swinged around was a big black evil bloody eyed CROW! Hey, what’s up I asked him. He stood on the railing of the bridge, not a care, not an apology from his lips! I mean beak.
I scurried along sensing there were many crows loitering around nearby, it felt like they were the samsengs (thugs) or ah bengs (term for some kind of guy) loitering in their ‘area’. I made my way safely to the other side and stood from the bus stop witnessing the Evil Crow attacking some other victims. One man tried to hit the crow while a few gals were dodging here and there as the Evil One keep flying into people’s ways. What a bird!
So I waited and waited for the bus, got on it (btw, a bus trip to MMU from there is RM2.50, you can only take Cityliner bus no. 868) and thank God, got to school safely. As I entered my faculty office and waited for my Supervisor, I saw bunches of Foreign Men. Yea Norwegians they are. Apparently, they are Norwegian students here on a mission to secure some kind of Educational Tie or agreement with MMU IT and Engineering kids. I’m not sure then why they were using our faculty’s seminar room hhm.
Then on my way home in the bus, something else happened! There was a road block. I noticed something amiss tho, the Black Dogs (direct translation from Hokkien (O Kau) which refers to police in black/dark blue uniform) were all very young, like freshies, and some were holding on to huge rifles. I saw probably only a couple of White Dogs (same meaning- referring to Traffic police in white uniform). As the bus squirm its way thru, I kept looking at the rows of Black Dogs on both sides of the highway, fear was written all over their faces. A White Dog motioned for the bus to pull over. This guy is an old timer, pot bellied, moustacheod, black glasses’d and all. He stomped up the bus as the door swung open, stood and took one glance around. I must say, he’s pretty good in not wasting our time, he went straight to two guys seated in front of me, and stretched out his hands, asking for some ID. Turns out the guys aren’t local, coz they produced Green Passports. I continued to read Boingboing on my handphone via GPRS while checking out what’s happening in the front with my third eye. That was it, nothing interesting after all.
What about Koreans? Well, a couple of Koreans I talked about long time ago asked if I could help with some layout thingy they were doing for their prayer flyer. Well, how can I say no?
err. maybe it’s not that nice to refer to them as dogs…
imho.
Apologies for the reference, but it’s not that I made it up. It is a direct translation from an old dialect, that’s all. But it really doesn’t mean a bad thing. Dogs a awesome creations!
