A Bailar! Let’s Dance with the MPO!
A Bailar means to dance, and the concert line up this season was certainly enough to make my feet tap and my soul dance away with every note. I am happy to share the return and reopening of The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) this March 2022. While we await the new season, let’s review A Bailar and might I interest you to join me at the next concert. A Bailar was led by the very talented and animated MPO’s Resident Conductor Gerard Salonga who never failed to make every piece his own. We were taken on ride across Latin America with music inspired by Mexico,…

MPO’s Heavenly Mahler Review
Together with my guest Elsa, we attended the MPO’s Heavenly Mahler last week at the Petronas Towers. The programme features the renowned piece by Gustav Mahler, Symphony No. 4. The conductor was Roberto Abbado, who was awarded the prestigious Premio Abbiati by the Italian Music Critics Association. I am not a professional musician, however, I was mesmerised how everything came alive as he started waving his wand. I always wondered how the whole orchestra aligns perfectly with the conductor. Let’s Build A Band with Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra
Last week, I got to enjoy a one of a kind Family Fun Day at the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. Let’s Build and Band was led by Conductor/Presenter Kevin Hathaway. From the title, I really didn’t know what to expect. How will we be building a band, I wondered. Entering the hall with my 6 year old son, I realised that the seats were all empty, non of the musicians have entered the hall as they usually do. Something must be amiss. Kevin Hathaway was dressed in a foreman’s suit while sitting on the floor. 2 minutes after I sat down, he started talking to the audience. I thought, how interesting…

Let’s Build a Band with the MPO!
The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will present its ever popular Family Fun Day series with two shows on Saturday, 13 May 2018 at 2.30 pm and 4.30 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC. Together with conductor/presenter Kevin Hathway, the MPO, an ensemble of bowed strings, brass, woodwind and percussion instruments, will engage the audience to ‘build a band’ via an exciting programme; the light and bouncy Anderson’s Fiddle Faddle highlights the brilliance of the string instruments, Rutter’s Suite Lyrique demonstrates the different moods and amazing soundscapes, ragged Botsford’s Black And White Rag calls for a great dexterity from the pianist, and Abreu’s exotic Tico-Tico emulates the image of a…
