The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will present a concert full of wonderful melodies, elegant lyricism and pastoral loveliness on Saturday, 12 August 2023 at 8.30 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.
The concert will be conducted by MPO Resident Conductor Naohisa Furusawa.
The centerpieces of this programme are Mozart’s two horn concertos. Not only did Mozart write more concert works for the horn, all the concertos rank at the pinnacle of the solo horn repertory.
Horn Concertos No. 1 and No. 2 were composed during the last 10 years of Mozart’s life; the works feature light-hearted fun, joy and playfulness tunes that will put smiles on your face.
Serenading the rich sonority of the French horn in this concert is Grzegorz Curyla, one of the most prominent Polish horn players of his generation. He has performed with renowned orchestras such as the BBC, Berlin and Royal Philharmonics, the London Sinfonietta, the Sydney and Melbourne Symphonies, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. He joined the MPO in 2015 as Section Principal Horn.
The programme of the evening will also comprise Schubert’s romantic and mysterious Unfinished Symphony and his Entr’acte No.3 from Rosamunde. The concert will open with Faure’s elegant Masques et bergamasques, evoking the festivities of yesteryear.
