Kek Lapis Sarawak or Sarawak Layered Cake is a very, very special delicacy in Sarawak, served especially during festivities like Gawai, Raya, Chinese New Year etc. It’s actually a very hard to make cake, as you have to bake it layer by layer, and it’s very colourful. However, supposedly the colours are safe to consume. Kek Lapis Sarawak actually originated from Indonesia, so if you go to Indonesia, you’ll find it there too.
Nowadays, it come in all kinds of flavours, hhm, my favourite is with chocolate and cheese!
The great news is, there is now a shop opened in Tesco Semenyih now that sells my favourite patriotic cake. I have to like it as a Sarawakian! I recently tried out Chocolate Almond, it was really good. I should go back for the Cheese and give you better pictures. Unfortunately, we finished up the Chocolate Almond before I had a chance to take pics. By the way, one can also sample the cakes before buying.
Looks yummilicious! Now tell me where can I find kompia and good kampua in KL?
Kampua can be found in Ming Tien restaurant next to Sunway Pyramid…if you’re looking for Kolomee check my post http://leonalim.com/blog/index.php/2008/09/03/sarawak-in-puchong/
I agree that it’s yummy because MIL brought some over – plain and pandan. Although I found the pandan one a bit too GREEN, it tasted quite good!
how much are they selling it for?
