I recently started another blog..Portraits of Justice. I used to sketch portraits a lot in my teenage years..well, working and studying has definitely took my time away from that. I learned portrait sketching from my sis the artist. At that time, we used to buy Galaxie Magazines, and usually at the back page, readers can submit their drawn portraits of their favourite artistes and get paid RM50. So, maybe that was my motivation back then.
Being a crazy Manchester United fan in those days, I would draw my favourite footballers.
Anyone remember this guy?
Well, today my motivation is different. I really want to give more to WorldVision, but it’s not easy to save to sponsor another child, or give to charities like that regularly. So, Portraits for Justice is my little side project, where I can enjoy the love of drawing, at the same time get some money to give away. Here’s how it works…I sketch, you give. You can give in any amount, and 50% of what you give will be given to Worldvision. Obviously if it’s very little, I will have to let the amount accumulate to at least USD10 before WV would take it. For proof, receipt of the giving will be posted on the blog.
The 50% that I keep for myself won’t really be for myself either. I will also let this amount accumulate, and later on sponsor another child. I really want to sponsor a child from Myanmar or something.
Now why do I believe in WorldVision’s work? Basically, what they do is transform communities in countries that are underprivileged, especially where there are lots of children and the people are really poor. How do they transform? The money that sponsors give are pooled together to implement long-term, community-wide changes that help break the vicious cycle of poverty.
World Vision helps the poor to help themselves, working with them to build sustainable futures for their children, families and communities through emergency relief, education, health care, economic development and promotion of justice.
So, if you want a pencil portrait of yourself, at the same time want to give to charity, why not send your pic to me? I’m waiting….
hey this is great. maybe i’ll be the first customer hehe.
Wow~! Honestly, they look amazing! The thing is.. wonder whether can the portrait be nicer than the original picture itself? 🙂
