According to Wikipedia, “Shabu-shabu (Japanese: ã—ゃã¶ã—ゃã¶), also spelled syabu-syabu, is a Japanese variant of hot pot” or steam-boat as we call it here. In Kajang, there are lots of places for Steamboat, especially in Chinese restaurants. Usually, it is not very hygienic, as up to ten people share a table with one steaming pot, so in goes everyone’s chopsticks, spoons and all….
In Sg Chua Kajang, there’s a new Shabu-shabu restaurant, and what’s really neat is that every one has their personal pot. The tables are special made, with holes in them, and underneath each hole is an electric stove, or digital inverter.
At Wong’s Kitchen Shabu-shabu, you can order in personal sets, or Ala carte. We ordered two different sets and shared from it. I ordered the Beef set, as what’s Shabu-shabu without beef??
It comes in generous portions of beef, and some meatballs, vegetables, noodles and one egg.
The beef pieces were fresh and sliced very thin.
The other set we ordered was the Mixed Seafood set; comes with fish, cuttlefish, clams, and prawns besides the usual noodles and egg. The sauces used were delicious, and you can also choose from 3 different soups, chicken, tom yam, and herbal. I had the herbal soup as it was something different. This is a rather nice place for a good meal, I like the modern yet zen looking deco.
It’s air-conditioned too, so you don’t have to worry about getting yourself steamed up. Prices were ok, definitely a little higher than those eat all you can steamboat restaurants. However, it’s good for health, coz you only eat the proportion that’s given. Each set goes for around RM12-17, so it was quite affordable.
looks really good! too bad it’s a lil far for me 🙁
emm Sg. Chua specifically where arh? Near the old Hugo? Or nearer to the KFC? Or the road to Bangi ya?
It’s actually located in Tmn Kajang Raya, where most of the bigger foodcourts like 2020, wai sek kai, mamak stalls are…next to a seafood restaurant. From the old Hugo you gotta turn in at Jln 7/1 and go straight on….got it? Too bad I threw away the receipt so don’t have the add now… :O
