\nWhat is Flowboarding? Flowboarding \u2013 or flowriding, as it is also generally known \u2013 is an alternative boardsport\u00a0which gained popularity in the last 20 years incorporating elements of surfing,\u00a0bodyboarding, skateboarding, skimboarding and wakeboarding.\u00a0Flowboarders will ride on artificial waves comprising of a three-inch layer of water pumped at\u00a0high pressure. The water flows up and over surfaces engineered to replicate the shape\u00a0of ocean waves. These \u201csheet waves\u201d, as they are known, are stationary and do not\u00a0move forward as natural waves do. Flowboarders garner their speed from the energy of\u00a0the water flowing at them, rendering them the ability to perform basic to sophisticated\u00a0turns and tricks within a relatively small area.

\nAsia Flow Tour 2016 saw over 35 talented flowboarders from around Asia, mainly\u00a0Malaysia, Thailand, Korea, Singapore, and Indonesia competing in five different\u00a0categories. These surfers from around the globe are gearing up as Asia Flow Tour 2016 beckons. Sunway\u00a0Lagoon plays host to the first pro-qualifier leg of the tour, as Malaysia\u2019s First Surf Simulator,\u00a0Flow Rider, will be the stage for the participants to showcase their acrobats and stunts.<\/p>\n

\nThe winners of this Asia Flow Tour 2016 pro-qualifier leg in Malaysia are now one step\u00a0closer to competing at the Asia Tour Grand Finals, which is set to take place at Sunway\u00a0Lagoon on the 16 th to 17 th of September. Following which, the winners will then battle it\u00a0out against the world\u2019s best at the 2016 World Flowboarding championships, of which\u00a0details of the competition will be released soon.<\/p>\n

Calvin Ho also added, \u201cWe are so proud of our very own lifeguards, Mohammad Irwan\u00a0for coming in 3rd in the International Mixed Flowboard and Hezro for bagging the 2nd spot\u00a0in the Open Mixed Bodyboard categories respectively. Despite being a relative newcomer to the sport, Malaysia is already making waves in\u00a0international flowboarding circuits, thanks to local competitors who are putting the\u00a0country on the world flowboarding map.
