First thing I heard as I opened my eyes as, ” My daughter that sleeps too much…” It was still really dark, had been raining the whole night and the morning as well..I didn’t know Kuching had so much rain. Anyways, naturally I thought with such a comment it meant it’s really late already. I was supposed to join my parents for breakfast and do some shopping with them. I looked around but no clock in the room. so I struggled to wake up and went looking for a clock, and hey it was only nine in the morn. Pretty early.. So it was a day of running around..first we went to this place far far away just to buy some ducks, then it was to the other end of the city to give some stuff to their friends. In return, the woman blessed us with some great big fish and prawns. Then only after that we stopped by some coffee shop for breakfast, Kuching’s famous Kueh chap, a kind of noodle with all parts of the pork cooked in soya sauce soup. Sounds gross? Well, my old people happened to love it. After that, it as off again to buy lamb meat, all these food for the open house on the first day! You can imagine the crowd. So I rested much and managed to do some work for the web, at 7:30 I was on the prowl again. This time with an old friend, Amy. Amy had been my childhood friend, been classmates when we were just 7. In two more years, we would have known each other for two decades! WOw, talk about long term relationship. So, she’s the only person I’ve met since I got back…she’s taken me to some coffee place, and tonite we just went shopping around and then stopped by a Taiwan tea house. Lots of such places have been mushrooming around the town! It was a nice little cosy place, with cushions on the floor. So we made ourselves comfy, ordered something to bite and went on the chatter. Lots to catch up as I only see her once a year. It’s amazing to me how after such a long time, we never fail to find stuff to talk about. I mut admit I had drifted away from some other long term friends once the thing in common back then just wasn’t there anymore. With Amy, it was a little different. We never really had anything in common, but we can just talk about anything, from people to property management, to love issues. whatsoever…. I can’t wait to meet up with more old friends later on chinese new year. Sometimes, we count on this short celebration to bring us all back together again. I wonder when we should have a proper reunion. Afterall it’s been nearly ten years since we graduated from high school. How time flies.
