Medina Zahara, 11, member of the Wildlife Heroes council presented the enrichment plan to the Sunway Theme Parks management team.

The council meeting saw many impressive ideas when the Wildlife Heroes each presented an enrichment plan for a chosen animal from Sunway Lagoon’s Wildlife Park and Lost World Petting Zoo to the STP management. To further enhance the programme, the Heroes were taught survival skills such as cooking using minimal and natural resources.

The Wildlife Heroes prepared the enrichment items for the animals at Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Lost World Of Tambun using recyclable materials.

At the 2nd council meeting, they were briefly introduced to the animals at Sunway Lagoon’s Wildlife Park and learnt about various animal behaviour and diet. Applying that knowledge at the 3rd council, the Heroes learned to clean horse stables, prepare the animals’ enrichment items, feed the animals and participated in an in-depth session with STP’s veterinarians on ways to ensure the animals’ well-being.
The council also saw the presentation of rewards to the Wildlife Heroes at the graduation ceremony as the conclusion of the year-long Wildlife Heroes learning programme. Each of the Wildlife Heroes received RM 8,000 while the Chief of the council, Anna Huggel was remunerated an additional incentive of RM 4,000 for completing the programme.

Hoping to hone in on their natural passion and enthusiasm for the environment, STP’s Wildlife Heroes programme aims to provide a platform that is fun and also educational. The year-long Wildlife Heroes programme saw the children immersing themselves in a multitude of wildlife experiences and encountered with nature at Sunway Lagoon and LWOT, including learning basic survival skills in the wild.

“Sunway Lagoon and Lost World Of Tambun are both multi-attraction themed parks that offer safe and fun environments for children to not only have fun but also learn. Through the Wildlife Heroes programme, we hope to teach kids about wildlife housed in our parks and in nature, while creating greater awareness on wildlife and nature conservation efforts. Every single one of our Wildlife Heroes is future ambassador of our planet and they each have an important role to play in ensuring the sustainability of the wildlife,” said Calvin Ho, Senior General Manager, Sunway Theme Parks.
