#UberPark: Reclaiming Paradise From Parking Lots

uber
Uber is transforming regular parking lots into actual parks. This is a really interesting and neat idea. Uberpark changes what we think about parking lots. Learn more about the appearance and safety of the parking lots here.

This initiative started since Malaysia Day, 16 September. Various parking areas in Klang Valley just transformed into pop-up parks like what you see above.

One of my blogger friends Miriam actually stumbled upon one such Uberpark. It was in Bangsar outside Inside Scoop ice cream store. I think she ended up having ice cream right there in that small park.

Actually, I personally take Uber myself whenever I have to go to the city even though I have a car. That is because I believe that more Malaysians should share rides and free the the city of congestion of cars. With less cars in all these parking lots, means the city can build more parks. Therefore, this creates an ecosystem that is beneficial for both humans and the environment if less people drive. It’s only a few days left to the end of September, try and see if you can find an #Uberpark today!

Finally, to find out more about the next UberPark location, follow #UberPark.

For this weekend, UberPark will be at the following places between 11am – 4pm:

Saturday 1/10: Strangers at FORTY7, Section 17, P.J.

Sunday 2/10: Village Park Restaurant, Damansara Uptown, P.J.

Kenny Choong, General Manager – Uber EVERYWHERE, of Uber Malaysia said, “What we’re aiming to establish with #UberPark is a vision and challenge to Malaysians, that one fewer car on the road means one fewer parking lot occupied, and more space for leisurely activity. If this concept can be replicated, even by the people’s own initiative, it indirectly helps our environment a little more. Imagine what Malaysia would look like with fewer cars, and more parks or leisure spaces instead?”

About Uber

Uber’s mission is to make transportation as reliable as running water –everywhere, for everyone. We started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: how do you get a ride at the touch of a button? Six years and over two billion trips later, we’ve started tackling an even greater challenge: reducing congestion and pollution in our cities by getting more people into fewer cars.
