The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will take you on a musical trip to Russia and present magical ‘fairytales’ in the form of classical gems on Saturday, 23 September 2017 at 8.30 pm and Sunday, 24 September 2017 at 3.00 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.
The concerts will feature substantial excerpts from two full-length ballet scores, both by Russians and both are based on beloved universal fairytales about a handsome prince in search of a beautiful girl, whom, following many difficulties, he eventually finds and marries. Prokofiev’s Suite from Cinderella and Tchaikovsky’s Suite from The Sleeping Beauty will indeed put the audience in a magical splendour.
The MPO will also perform Bartók’s Violin Concerto collaborating with French violinist Renaud Capuçon, who has performed with many prominent orchestras such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, Leipzig Gewandhaus and the Philharmonia. A prolific recording artist, he has collaborated with luminaries such as Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Martha Argerich, Yuri Bashmet and Truls Mørk.
All concerts will be led by Stéphane Denève who has collaborated with the MPO in 2012. Music Director of the Brussels Philharmonic, he is recognized for his exceptional quality of his performance on the podium, weaving magic on the world’s most renowned orchestras. He also has a special affinity for the music of his native France. A passionate advocate for new music, he has led opera productions at La Scala, Deutsche Oper Berlin and Netherlands Opera.
