Berbuka with Celebrity Chef Norman Musa @ Pullman KLCC

How many times in our lives can we say that we had dined in the same room together with celebrities like these, flanked by models on the left and right, from L-R, Europe’s leading Malaysian chef and a passionate ambassador for Malaysian cuisine, Chef Norman Musa, British High Commissioner to Malaysia Vicki Treadell CMG, MVO and renowned couture fashion designer Carven Ong. Indeed it was a dazzling night to remember for me at Eccucino, Pullman KLCC with signature dishes carefully created by Chef Norman and even a mini fashion show Diva of Songket by Carven, complete with a cooking demo with guest of honour, Vicki Treadell.

Tables at Eccucino were set beautifully with the traditional Rose Syrup drink. It had been a couple of months since I last dined here in Eccucino so it was great to revisit it again and see the all new Ramadan menu.

The dishes available in the buffet are really extensive. There are over 100 traditional and fusion dishes to try out here.

However, there are a few MUST TRY dishes that are are specially created by Chef Norman himself. By the way, he flew all the way from Manchester to KL just to showcase his special dishes in Pullman KLCC throughout the month of Ramadan after being away for 24 years! What an honour for us to dine in Pullman KLCC and get to taste his dishes! Anyways, this is one of the amazing creations entitled Rendang Scotch Eggs.

This special dish have a boiled egg in the center, and the crispy skin is the special recipe, with mixture of homemade rendang paste mixed with minced chicken, chilli flakes, kaffir lime leaves and roasted coconut that coats the egg one by one in breadcrumbs before being deep fried revealing a golden round ball of protein delight. Cut in half and find the perfectly boiled egg with the golden yolk. This is something my kids would love I’m sure.

Another really famous Norman Musa dish is the Rendang Beef Wellington. The recipe for this dish was actually featured in Jamie Oliver’s Jamie Magazine May/June 2012 issue! Beef Wellington is a dish traditionally originating from England, but Chef Norman took it up a notch by adding Rendang to it successfully making it a fusion dish, adding special ingredients like kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass, kerisik, and rendang curry paste. The beef with rendang flavour is wrapped with mushroom, spinach and pastry and baked to perfection, sliced to serve with a crispy skin on the outside and a bursting Malaysian flavour on the inside. One of my fav for the night.

Served next to it is the Selom Lamb Racks. Another hot dish that was quickly snatched up within seconds that it landed on the serving platter!

Chef Norman had used Malaysian herbs to cook the lamb racks with ‘daun selom’ or water parsley, with a coating of breadcrumbs, mustard and cheese to make real crispy on the outside. This is then baked to perfection. Using selom is so genius as water parsley is able to brighten any flavour and it sure does in this dish, bringing out the freshness of the lamb meat.

This is another Chef Norman signature dish, Lemongrass Roast Chicken. Chef Norman actually created and shared the recipe of this dish online to his Facebook followers, how generous. I just saw that it garnered over 300 shares!

Seldom in buffets do we get to bring something home right? Well, at Pullman it is different, you might even win a stay in the junior suite after dining here. We get to make our own jar of salad with the provided condiments and share it on Instagram/Facebook/Twitter while tagging the hotel and the chef and await the results. Wish I could win as the junior suite is really fancy here.
