Christmas Menu at Bubbles & Bites, Maxim Hotel Genting

Bubbles & Bites located in Level 2 of Maxim Hotel in Genting Highlands is a very hip and futuristic looking restaurant that caters to diners looking for a quick bite or even a full set meal to some bubbly drinks. I immediately fell in love with the interesting theme and colour, laser purple lighting and glass with contrasting white washed walls. The name of the restaurant is using giant scrabble tiles and they put much detail into every part of the deco.

For example, on this wall with the random alphabet tiles, with one look it will seem it was randomly placed. However, look carefully, and you will find actual food names inside, can you spot them? I found Spaghetti,  Peri-Peri, Margherita, Fettucini etc. It can be a fun game with friends while eating and drinking here to see who can find the most words. This is a great place to grab your lunch, dinner or supper while staying over at any of the hotels in Genting.

There are actually two floors in this restaurant, with these stairs leading to the upper level for a more intimate seating area that fits 34 pax.

Dessert lovers would be pleased to find an extensive selection of cakes, brownies and pies.

If you are watching your diet, go for some salad at this long salad bar. The menu is rather extensive here, ranging from starters, soups, salads, homemade pastas, burgers and sandwiches to pizzas, stews, sausages, pies and many more. They are quite famed for the Roast Kampung Chicken, Slow Braised Lamb Shank and the Simply Fresh Hamburger using freshly ground beef and Wagyu lard, gherkins and half burnt onions served on a soft sesame seed bun. Kids would love their Pizza Carbonara and Picci Bolognaise along with Peri-peri chicken wings and Spaghetti Meatballs. I need to take many trips to Genting to try all the food!

The dining area looks pleasant and casual with bright natural lighting coming in from the right side wall which is basically a large glass panel overlooking the Resort Hotel.

The chiller in purple with all kinds of drinks you can find. The name ‘Bubbles & Bites’  represents what it serves – simple western food with an exquisite array of drinks called “Bubbles”, which are sparkling wines that are imported from Italy, Spain, France and other wine countries.

Bubbles & Bites Chef Khaiful had created a special 4 course menu just for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Concert goers would be pleased to know that it will open up to 2am, so this is the perfect place for supper after a weekend concert in Genting.

The appetizer on the Christmas menu is Parmigiana with Stuffed Cheese Tomato served with Balsamic reduction and garden salad.

DSC00956

In simple terms, this is a vegetable lasagna. It is created with layerings of zucchini, cheese, eggplant, chicken slices and tomato puree. The cherry tomato on the side is stuffed with cheese too…and a cute carrot, with the parmigiana topped with fresh and crunchy garden salad. I love the combination of tastes in this dish, appetizing and opening your taste buds. It also tasted really healthy so I wouldn’t mind to have more.

The soup is called Gazpacho with pesto oil.

DSC00968

At first it tastes like Tomato pureed soup but there was a tinge of spiciness in it. Later I heard from Chef Khairul that he used Jalapeno to spice it up. The soup is a simple vegetable chilled soup that was blended with onions, zucchini, carrot and tomatos with cubed avocado toppings, cooked and chilled overnight before serving. All the oil used are Extra Virgin Olive Oil. I do love that it is sourish and healthy rather than the usual cream based soup. Even the bowl used is chilled to ensure that the soup remains cold while we are dining.

For mains, we had Panseared Turkey Mousseline, served with slow braised fennel, butternut mashed and spice cranberry sauce.

DSC00974

I love this exquisite looking dish that I was surprised that it was made with simple ingredients. The turkey meat was blended with cooking cream and egg, salt and pepper, and seared on the outside to create the browned effect while the fennel was braised with white wine for 45-1 hour. I really love the use of butternut as an alternative to potatoes, butternut mashed is awesome in every way. The sauce is turkey jus with red wine and the meat is cranberry jam spiced with cinnamon. Overall, an amazing and filling dish, very different from the usual direct cut turkey yet very Christmassy in the feel all the same.

Finally it was time for dessert, and it was Christmas pudding served with a macaron filled with vanilla ice cream and vanilla sauce.

Chef Khairul said the strawberry macaron was made in house too, and I though it matched amazingly well with the vanilla ice cream and the Christmas pudding is the final touch to the amazing 4 course meal. I love that everything was not too sweet, sticky and portion was just nice for a time of celebration. Diners can opt for coffee and tea and Pralines to end the meal while enjoying some drinks.

The Christmas set menu is available at these times along with their ala carte on the regular menu:
