AirAsia’s Travel 3Sixty° Celebrates 100th Issue

DSC09467What do you do when you board a flight? For me, everytime I fly with Airasia, I will reach into the front pocket to pick up the in-flight magazine, AirAsia’s Travel 3Sixty°. I must admit, sometimes I sneak a copy home to continue reading because the articles are so educational and there are some great travel destinations that I want to learn about. Untitled That was why I was so happy for the magazine team when AirAsia celebrated the 100th Issue. Imagine that, 100 issues having been printed over the last 8 years, what a great achievement, right.

Dato’ Aziz Bakar, Board of Director of AirAsia Berhad revealed the cover of Travel 3sixty°’s 100th issue during the celebratory event.

Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, publisher of the travel 3Sixty° magazine who is also the Executive Chairman of AirAsia Berhad and Group CEO of AirAsia X said, “It has been quite a journey for the in-flight magazine since it was established in 2007. I am very proud of how it has grown into the sleek, stylish and informational magazine that it is now; apart from being the only in-flight publication to be audited and endorsed by the Audit Bureau of Circulations of Malaysia (ABCM).” “The core mission of the magazine has always been to showcase the best of travel, culture and lifestyle and we want our readers to continue to experience and enjoy the magazine through an array of media – both print and digital. 100 issues is surely no easy feat, and I would like to congratulate the team on this milestone,” added Datuk Kamarudin Meranun. Flipping through the magazine, I was also so proud that the Bidayuh village in Sarawak, which happened to my beloved hometown, was the feature article in this precious issue. I then found out that AirAsia had launched a contest called Invite Travel 3Sixty° where readers now could write in to the editorial team and tell them about their hometown. The one letter that catch the attention of the team will bring the editorial team to the hometown and feature it as the cover story. Through this contest, AirAsia hope to enable local stories of any village across Malaysia to be shared on a regional front through this magazine.

The inspiration behind this contest really touched my heart. It happened that a teacher by the name of Larrie Jessika from a rural area in Tebedu, Sarawak emailed the editorial team about his story of how he had been using the Travel 3Sixty° to teach English in his classroom, sharing the many stories of other cultures. Larrie actually wanted to ask if he could have old past issues of the magazines to be added to the reading material of the students he was teaching. The editorial team was so moved by his story that they decided they needed to run this contest so that they can visit all the different places across Malaysia and learn about their culture too. You must get a copy of the 100th issue to read the cover story about Tebedu. Larrie is an amazing teacher, and I was really happy that AirAsia invited him on that day to come forward to receive a token of appreciation. No doubt, after that special email, copies of AirAsia’s Travel 3Sixty° is not available in the school there as part of their lessons.

travel 3Sixty° has won many awards and accolades since its inception in August, 2007. Most recently, in June, 2014, the magazine clinched the Platinum Achievement Award at the 2nd Kuala Lumpur Mayor’s Tourism Award 2014 in the International Print Media category which had 22 shortlisted publications from all over the world competing in the category. For those who have not heard, this magazing is a monthly, English language mag produced in-house by some passionate people who love to inspire wanderlust using beautiful imagery and travel tales.
