Beauty Review: Oils Of Lifeâ„¢ by The Body Shop

I received the very newly launched The Body Shop Oils of Life range a couple weeks ago for my review. I must admit, using a facial oil on my face in my facial routine is quite foreign to me. I had to research a lot on how to use it and when to use it and whether it is suitable for my skin type, which is combination of dry and oily and acne prone. I had heard a lot of beauty sales and consultant people tell me that I actually have dry skin, that is why my skin is producing a lot of oil to protect it. At the same time, there are others that tell me to stay away from oil based products as that can cause more acne for me. I was quite confused, until I started learning about natural high quality plant based oils while researching for this review.

The truth is, everyone should add oil to our beauty regime daily. The Body Shop has found that oil can prevent water loss from the skin that causes dry skin, and in turn makes our skin oily as our body will produce oil to cover the skin. The oil we produce or known as sebum is not like the high grade plant based oil. The oil we produce is what causes oily skin, clogged pores and all that bad stuff. The plant based oil such as black seed oil, camellia seed oil and rose hip oil found in this Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil are 99% Natural, and they in their purest forms actually provides nutrition with active ingredients to make the skin radiant. When we use a lot of products that strip away our natural face oil, our skin have to work doubly hard to compensate, but in the process of that, our skin will become prematurely aged and full of blemish! That is why we should be using a more balanced and gentle cleanser and products, the more natural the better I’ll say.

Having found more clarity about using oils, I then started using this product, The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil (RM199) 2 weeks ago till now and this is what I found. Firstly, I love the packaging, the clean white box with gold letterings, it just screams class and quality. I don’t know about you, but the design is just premium for me. Removing the glass bottle from the box, I notice that it is made with the dropper as the cap.

I love the fragrance of the oil. It is not messy and rather easy to use. I just take out the dropper while holding the bottle on my palms or just setting it aside. By the way, I will use this after cleanser, toner and serum, or this can replace serum as well. The 3 oils blended together give a very aromatherapy or essential oil feel that calms the mood. I would usually use the dropper and take 2-3 drops on my palms, warm it by rubbing my palms together before apply it on my face and neck by gently massaging it outwards to lift the skin and face.

If you don’t know how to massage the oil, then check out this dance video, it is super fun and cute and educational.

After using the facial oil for the last 2 weeks, I can safely say it did not break out my skin. Also, although it is purely oil, it is not oily! Once I applied it on my skin, it just absorbs totally, leaving the skin feeling smooth and radiant without the shiny face. So, I can actually use this morning and night. I also use it on my neck to prevent lines. After just two weeks, I do feel that my skin is smoother and the redness less prominent. I do have to use it longer to reap the real benefits. Most products need between 3-6 months to really make a real change. Before after pic at the bottom.

I also get to review the Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Cream (RM158), to be used after the oil. It is good practice to let the oil sit on the face for more than a minute, before layering on the cream. The cream also infuses the 3 precious seed oil mentioned above, Black Cumin seed oil from Egypt, Camellia seed oil from China and Rosehip seed oil from Chile.

The cream is heavy but not greasy. The Oils of Life range actually has another Cream-Gel product if you prefer lighter gel. It’s pretty hydrating for me, I can use it to sleep and wake not feeling my skin looked tired, it worked well like my Sleeping Mask to provide moisture and actually gave me a refreshing glow in the morning.

That said, it can be used in the mornings too since it is not greasy, under makeup. I have a lot of acne scars and used to read that rosehip oil can reduce scars, so hopefully with long term use, this can help. Maybe the rosehip oil helped reduce the redness too.

I loved that it absorbs into my skin very easily and quickly, so I don’t have to wait for a long time before throwing my head on the pillow for a night’s rest or before applying my sunblock. The jar is also quite big, should last a while as I only need a little bit of product for the whole face.

Without pictures, it is easy to say there’s a difference without knowing specifically where. So I took a photo on Sept 21 and today I took another photo, with my iPhone 6 flash in the same lighting in the same room without any makeup on.

Before left, after right using the body shop oils of life 14 days

Although I still have some acne here and there, but I can see that the pores had shrunk and the skin is indeed smoother. I can’t wait to continue using this until I finish the whole bottle to see the result.

  1. Although it’s a bit pricey but I think if it really works then it’s worth it. I’m having breakouts lately too and I need to find a product to help curb this breakouts. This oil seems promising
