Beauty Day Out with #BeautyGuideMy and Butterfly Project Malaysia

Untitled

I’m so excited to tell you about my amazing Beauty Day Out earlier this month with a group of beauty Butterfly Project bloggers organised by Beauty Guide.

Untitled

Basically, Beauty Guide is a website that any beauty enthusiasts can go and find out about the latest beauty and wellness reviews, where to find the latest and best spas, massages, fitness, facial, hair and nail outlets. Their reviews are very detailed and includes pricing, types of services available, contacts and more. On the site there’s also their blog which has their personal reviews of all the above mentioned locales and even tips and tricks for beauty and health. I love their blog reviews, it’s very funny and honest, really can give you an idea of what the experience will be before visiting the place!

1) Our beautiful day started in Strip Bangsar

Untitled

All us girls were super excited and nervous as we were not told what kind of waxing we would get. I was actually well preparing since the day before for the Brazilian Wax, as I’m a virgin waxer and I just had to read up about how it goes. Oh well, in the end we were offered the Half Arm Wax or Under Arm Wax. Seeing that my arms were pretty hairy already, I opt for that, plus I didn’t have to change my clothes so it was easy.

Untitled

Strip, The Ministry Of Waxing hailed from Singapore and now have multiple stores in Malaysia, in fact I’m sure you would have seen the big Orang Utan in and around KL Malls before.

Untitled

That is their mascot of what we should not become, super hairy! Strip basically is an outlet that specialises in hair removal and they have IPL treatments too. I learned that IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is like semi permanent hair removal broad spectrum light to target various chromophores in the skin. I might have used this in facials before hhm.

My Experience

On to what happened to me at Strip! First I was led by a friendly staff into a room at the back. There are some lighted deco on the wall for you to read while lying down, that was pretty informative.

Untitled

There was the single bed covered in brown towels just like the Orang Utan hair.

Untitled
On one side of the room were some cabinets, I could store all my things in there. I also had to take out my bracelets, watch and rings before the arm wax.

Untitled
This was the soft wax that was used on my arm, it was actually in this device to keep it heated. Once on my skin it was warm, not super hot. So firstly, all I did was lie down, no need to change clothes remember? Then the staff applied antiseptic gel on me, she said it was to ensure no germs or bacteria would be on my skin. She was very fast, friendly and happy to answer any questions. After that, she used the roller to apply to wax, and then used a wax strip and applied it to one part of my skin that had the wax on. I find the roller wax super convenient and easy to use, I wished I can do it at home, but the staff said I won’t know how to heat up the wax at home anyways, so better visit Strip for a well done job. Anyways, I expected it would sting when she peeled off the Wax Strip, but heck no, it was pretty pleasant. Let’s just say it’s not nearly as painful as using an epilator at home. Plus, she was so efficient, she snapped off the strip so quickly and very speedily proceed to other parts of my arms including tiny hairs on my fingers, she also checked thoroughly afterwards before declaring me hairless (on my arms that is). The whole ordeal took around 15 min or less only. After finishing, she again applied the antiseptic and advised me not to take hot baths, do scrubbing massage and to apply lotion after. She also warned me about shaving, that shaving would make my hair grow more rough, and that some people might find redness after a wax. Thankfully, my arm skin are thick unlike my face, so I experienced no such redness, bumps or what nots, in fact I only experienced a super smooth arm. The only thing after the waxing was was I realised I have lots of pigmentation on my arms! I really should not skip the morning Sunblock before leaving the house, all those hair had managed to hide them from my eye view all those years! Thanks Strip Bangsar for the enlightenment. For Wax virgins, I’d say try the Arm wax or the Armpit wax for your first time experience if you are afraid, coz after that you’d have a better understanding of what waxing is, and now I believe I am very ready to go back for my full body waxing soon!

After a pampering wax session, I get to relax and enjoy some juice and beautiful cupcakes prepared for us. It was very sweet but I love desserts.

2) Our second location was pretty far away, at Mandara Spa, Sunway Hotel Resort and Spa

Untitled

Since it was quite a distance, during an afternoon jam packed time, we get to carpool with Uber Black. The driver was very entertaining and told us so many stories about his work as an Uber driver, it certainly took the time stuck in jam away.

Untitled

We were even given a big bottle of water each and an Uber Badge to celebrate Uber’s 5th anniversary.

Untitled

Before we realised it, we arrived at our destination in front of Sunway Hotel. We get dropped down in style right at the lobby entrance. That’s the benefit of being ubered around.

Untitled

I never realised that there was a beautiful place like this below Sunway Hotel. You just cannot imagine it from the lobby. It was like we were being transported from the city into a jungle resort, but we were actually still in the middle of the city.

Untitled

We walked along a long pathway following these little umbrellas until we came upon Mandara Spa which was right at the very end. Along the way, we saw many villas, I heard each have their own spa pools inside too. How posh ya.

Untitled

Immediately inside Mandara Spa, I felt relaxed from the aromatherapy filling the room. From the heat of the outdoors to the cooling vibe inside, with the smiles of the staff and the beautiful Bali inspired deco.

Untitled

Glass walls let you see through into the greenery outside, and guests could even do their shoulder massages facing the outdoors for a full on natural experience while getting some Vitamin D from the sun.

Untitled

My Experience

I was to be given a 50 Min Balinese Massage, which I was promised would remove every tiredness from my body. Having visited many spas found in small shoplots before, this beautiful room filled with wooden furniture and a large window letting the sun in was a total welcome to me.

Untitled

It was a large room, maybe like a hotel Standard room, with a big cupboard to store my things and a day bed for me to lie around.

Untitled

The massage oil looks good even, well, it certainly smelt invigorating.

Untitled

I was given some time to change into my sarong before the masseur entered. Majority part of the massage was on my back as I laid face down on the bed, there was a hole for me to place my face with aromatherapy placed right below it. The 50 min passed so fast, I wished it lasted longer. The masseur was very professional and allowed me to be in total relaxation, which was why by the end of the session, I realised I was half asleep! I felt totally relaxed, so much so it would be a nice time to go to bed, but of course, my tummy was grumbling by that time, I had to find something to eat.

If you need a nice massage after a tiring shopping trip in Sunway, why not head to Mandara Spa?

3) Lunch at WIP, Bangsar Shopping Centre

Once again, we were Ubered to our next location, back to Bangsar. WIP is a restaurant / bar with an urban-tropic garden ambience which I came to find out during lunch, served the best foods and drinks in innovative forms.

Untitled

The full menu with Starters, Main Dishes, Dessert and Drinks were already specially created for us with all their signature dishes. I couldn’t wait another minute to try them out as it was late afternoon.

The three starters were amazing, I personally really loved the Greek Berry Salad as I just love berries plus it had big pieces of feta cheese, which I can just gobble up each one by itself. The prawns were very crispy, it’ felt  like our CNY snack, those little anchovies. The chips made a good snack as well, it tasted like chips but it was just healthier. All the starters were big portioned, great for sharing between 4-5 people even.

For main course, we had the XO Fried Rice. Personally, I find the rice a bit too salty for me, maybe I am not used to eating salty food. The rest of the girls seemed to really love this dish and how authentic it was. The sauces were good though, sourish and a little spicy and the fish skewer was a nice touch too. This dish is huge, I could not finish the rice as we had another three main courses to try out.

Untitled

This signature dish had a wow factor, from the way it was served on skewers hanging like that. No worries, we did not have to cut the meat ourselves, after letting us feel wowed and take pics, a waiter came to cut into proper serving sizes.

There was also the beef version, this one was marinated in garlic and was very fragrant, for beef lovers please choose this even if it looked smaller.

WIP also serve pizzas! This was the Triple Trio Supreme, pizza with chicken sausage, chicken ham, grilled chicken, onion ring, cocktail onion, onion marmalade, mozzarella, cheddar and emmental cheese, it was a long list of ingredients that created a nice pizza. I thought it was just ok, nothing over the top and over the moon.

Even though I was completely filled up by this stage, I could not miss trying the dessert, especially when it was a brownie and Ice cream was on the menu. This was heavenly, the brownie was just the right sweetness and just lather it with the Haagen Dazs ice cream, this was heavenly.

Untitled

However, the star of the dessert was the simply named Tiramisu, with a tinge of alcohol and coffee flavour in it, who could say no to this. With all this glorious food, we sure needed some nice drinks to wash it down, so I had this Tropical Mojito, which was like their star drink. This had rum, watermelon syrup, passionfruit puree, watermelon, mint leaves and lime wedges, very refreshing! In all seriousness, this would be a nice place for parties, family gatherings, corporate lunches, whatever it may be. Anyways, Apronbay is not like most mani pedi places I’ve been, Apronbay is focused on giving you the experience, from the moment you walk to the moment you dance out. You won’t believe how a simple pedi can be such a pampering experience, getting my feet washed in warm water and all. Once seated, we were even served with this citrus juice, so refreshing and relaxing. We had the express pedi, couldn’t do a mani as we might smudge it on our way back. After an express shaping of the toe nails, I get to choose any colour I want. They use only high quality products here.

It’s a no brainer, I always go for purple, matte light purple this time. It’s a gel type that really lasts, the colour didn’t come off for nearly 3 weeks, I was so impressed as I could never colour it so nice myself.

Now this is why Apronbay is different from others, they create these rooms that look like you’re entering an aeroplane, and every room has a unique and different design. By the way, these rooms are used for their waxing services.

This is what one of the many rooms look like, the whole place is decorated with Air Travel concept.

I was even given a flight ticket to visit them again for another special treatment called The Savvy Spa Pedicure, which will be a pampering treat for my legs & feet with Immaculate Cuticle Care+ Luminating Scrub + Rejuvenating Mask + Heavenly Massage with Natural Oils + Colour. Nice, I will review that when I go back again next month.

So that marked the end of my awesome beauty day out with Beauty Guide in collaboration with The Butterfly Project Malaysia. I totally enjoyed myself with the girls, and now whenever I need to find a spa, or need a tip about my health, I will always hop on to Beauty Guide website to find out more as they have articles and reviews on just about nearly everything.
