Dinoscovery by Dinosaurs Live! At Discoveria Avenue K

I was browsing a Facebook Group one day when I saw one of the member posted a free trip for a family with children to visit Dinoscovery at Discoveria inside Avenue K, next to KLCC. last Thursday. I immediately wanted to bring Josiah as it was the school holidays and we really didn’t have much planned for him. Very exciting, Josiah even brought his school friends along, Jonas and Alisha. After all, it is free. Tickets are at RM26 for adults and RM36 for children, a bit on the pricey side in my opinion.

The entrance and ticketing counter area had a huge body of a dinosaur with wagging tails minus the head, a bit gore no? However, this must be their best dinosaur yet, kids love it.

There’s a nice cafe next to it, which also housed the merchandise store and the exit of the exhibit. Food is also on the pricey side, no idea how it tasted since we did not try. The big cookie just like the one from Subway cost RM7.50.

Finally, we got our tickets and proceed to enter the place, and each of us adults and kids were given an paleontologist vest and the kids get their own Dino Detector wristband that was to be used for a treasure hunt to get clues. Each child was given a map of the exhibits and they had to stick stickers on it from the clues they found, this map will be exchanged for a certificate at the end of the tour. Somehow, we didn’t get the Energizer headlight, which later we found, was actually very necessary. The place was so dark, it was a strain to the eyes to read the map.

Inside, there are around 20 types of dinosaur animatronics, big and small. They will move suddenly when you go near them, they have sensors I guess? The place as mentioned is dark and a little eerie, and very small and narrow. I think they do limit the number of people that enter per round, else it would be jam packed. At every dinosaur, there is a computer screen that the kids and tap their band on to watch a video and read about the type of dinosaur and some fun facts about it. Younger kids who don’t read probably won’t care too much about that part unless they are really into dinosaurs.

By the way, photography is prohibited but it seemed nobody cared and the people there are really relax too, they won’t stop you and might even help you use your tablet or phone to take a picture.

There are a few fun activities for children to make it less, factual. Like rock climbing..Josiah attempted it but halfway he just wanted to get down. He is not a climber material.

There’s also a Race A Theropod game where the children can try to outrun a virtual Theropod. This is something like what they have in Petrosains.

Then we were already near the end of the exhibit. There was a huge T-rex that you can climb and take pics on. You can buy 4R photos from this at RM25 each and more! We just used my iPhone.

Around here, there were also some more fun activities like shooting mosquitoes with a paint ball gun, volcano ball pit and a sand pit with bones inside where the children can try to brush for bones. Unfortunately, this area may be a bit dangerous, Josiah actually slipped and fell and got cuts on his knees due to the sharp bones inside, it’s slippery, be careful.

That explained why his face became like that, as he was in a little bit of pain.

At the merchandise, we had to return the vests, band and lights (if any). For children who would not return the vest, they could buy one at RM100++. Phew…

Normally, there are 3D movies on show, but not on that day, maybe coz we were non paying guests. All in all, it took us about 90 minutes. Children would surely enjoy themselves, no doubt. Adults on the other hand, might find the price a bit too steep for a tiny place like this. Unless your child loves dinosaurs to bits, this might not be worth it for you.
