The Gift of Wellbeing

I remember back when I was about 14, me and my sis Chris loves playing with dogs, wild dogs. Maybe it was because we used to have pets but around that age time, we didn’t have one. So one day, a stray dog kept coming to our house and we tried to domesticate it. Without our parents’ permission, we fed the dog so that it wouldn’t leave and kept coming back. It was a big but friendly dog, and being young, we knew no danger. However, one fine day, we did something silly. We so wanted to make this dog ours that we tried to bath it. It was really dirty you see. So at our porch, we took soap and water and bathed it. It was ok at first, but suddenly, maybe out of immense hunger the dog turned and bit me on my thighs. Instinctively, I tried to use my hand to push it away, but it turned and bit my hand, and then I pulled my hand and a big tear happened, so big I could see bones. The dog became afraid and ran away, while my sis freaked out and we still tried to hide the accident. Not knowing what to do, my sis tried to wash my hands by getting a pale of water and putting my hands in it. I ran upstairs and my blood just dripped all over the stairs. My mum was working at the back in the saloon, she had a customer. My sis alerted her and she came out with her customers, I can’t imagine now how freaked out she must have been then. Nevertheless, she was quite calm and did not scold me on the spot. She took a cloth and wrap my hands in it, put me in the car and together with her customer, she drove off to the hospital. It was a Sunday and no clinics were open. We drove right up to the emergency ward in the Sarawak General Hospital. I was swiftly attended to and on the spot I was given an injection and several stitches. Thankfully, we were in a government hospital, I couldn’t imagine how much it would have cost if not. Unfortunately, I did not have Personal Accident coverage back then, if not, my mum could have claimed and it could have helped her out a bit with the rest of the medical fees. I had to return to the hospital a few times to check on the wound to to take out the stitches. I remember my dad was not around, he was travelling. For the next few nights after the incident, I had recurring nightmares, I had to sleep with my mum. In the middle of the nights, I would wake up screaming, shouting or shaken. Must have been quite a traumatic experience.

Thinking back on that, accidents can happen to anyone! Especially old people. My dad is now over 70 and having a personal accident coverage will be really important for him. That’s where I found out about AIG Injury Guard. Some of the special benefits of this new coverage includes:

If you have old people at home, you’d know that burns, fractures or dislocation can happen anytime. My mum was treated for some fractures some time back and she also has knee problems. Even my dad has difficulty walking at times due to aches here and there. However, old people still want to play strong, sometimes they still want to do what they could do when they were young. Once my mum tried to climb the fruit tree in our backyard to pluck the fruits for us, thankfully, I saw her and stopped her in her tracks. Cannot imagine what could have happened if not. Unfortunately, I do not live with them, in fact I live so far away, so I can’t see what they do on a day to day basis. Burns can happen too since she still cooks daily. Although we can’t be with them all the time, there are many ways to show our love and care for them. One way to show your love is to give them the gift of wellbeing via the AIG Injury Guard.
