Recently I got the new MX230 MIFI to test out from P1. This is a bigger and better MIFI compared to the last unit I had, the MF230. There is not a huge difference, the only difference is in the looks, the battery power and the ability to connect more devices. Basically, the MX230 can last up to 6 hours use and connect up to 8 devices, which is a lot. For me, maybe a max of 3 devices will be connected any one time.
Last week, we took a last minute family trip to Malacca as John had a Jamboree in Tampin. The MX230 became a most useful device during this trip. I used it to create our very own in room Wifi since the hotel provide only pay per use Wifi service.
So what I did was place the modem nearby the window and I managed to get an Orange to Green light, pretty good coverage at 8th floor there. I could suft and use FB and the internet like I was at home with our Fibre. I did not feel a lag, speed was pretty good overall. Since the battery lasts only 6 hours, occasionally I have to plug in it to charge. I actually forgot to bring the actual charger, so I use a Nokia phone USB cable with my iPhone adapter, works like a charm!
In the hotel room, which I had to spend half a day while John goes to the jamboree, Josiah could watch Disney Junior. The channels on TV only have Disney Channel and it doesn’t show cartoons all the time. So out came the iPad and with Astro on the Go, Josiah can catch his cartoons seamlessly. Hurray to me. MIFI is the new WIFI on the GO.
