DIY Stay Dry Liners for Cloth Diapers

Not all cloth diapers have a stay dry layer. Pocket diapers do, but not prefolds, fitteds and some AI2. Therefore, it’s necessary to add another thin layer normally made of micro fleece or micro suede material so that baby’s bum stay’s dry and the urine is absorbed through it into the inner layers. In the market, stay dry liners cost around RM3-4 per piece or more. For a simple piece like that it is pretty pricey. So I decided to make my own.

I bought a half meter piece of microsuede cloth from Niceclothdiaper.com for RM15 and went about my cutting project tonight.

cut
I measured using an Anakku disposable liner that I had and it came to about 12”x5”. It fits perfectly over my Grobaby diapers and other inserts if set at smaller baby settings. I think I won’t be using these liners when baby is bigger as I have lots of pocket diapers for that.

product
These are the final product and the cloth made a total of 24 pieces of stay dry liners. That makes it only about 60 cents per piece compared to buying ready made ones at RM3 or more. The great thing about suede cloth is no sewing is needed as the cloth won’t flair at the edges. You can sew just to make it look ‘prettier’ but that’s about it.

This is how it looks like over a Grobaby diaper set at the smallest setting.
I’m so inspired about doing DIY projects that I am now looking for cotton flannel cloth so I can make my own cloth baby wipes. Baby wet wipes are the only thing that I’m still using as disposables and it doesn’t make sense since I’m using cloth diapers, I might as well use cloth wipes that will go in the pail together to be washed with the diapers.
