I know of people who hates Facebook after using it they decided to quit it, and then there are people who are addicted to it, wants to quit it but can’t. For me, Facebook is really a tool, a great tool I love to use. Here are my 10 reasons (in random order) why I’m loving it now, and will continue to keep loving it for many years to come:
1) Keeping in touch
I know some would think it’s cheap to keep in touch via Facebook and not face to face or through more personalised methods such as calling, emailing, snailmaling etc. Much as I love the other methods, living in this crazy world that’s coming to an end makes it hard to write and call 500 of my friends. Thus, Facebook is really great to be able to share what I’m doing via status, share my photos via the albums, share my videos and more, and be able to see what others are up to at the same time, all 500 of my friends, well at least the active ones.
2) Networking
I know I can also use Linkedin, but Facebook is great for making new contacts. However, I don’t really add people I totally do not know. Sometimes, I meet a new person, but do not have enough time to get to know everything about the person, an acquaintance, let’s say. So we take the conversation online on Facebook, and catch up there. This is even more crucial since now with a new baby, it gets so much harder to have meet up sessions. Through Facebook as well, I do meet new people, a friend’s friend for example, and we can become friends too!
3) Great for de-stressing
After a long day at work, there’s nothing more relaxing than checking my facebook and seeing what’s happening to everyone. Again, sounds controversial yea, but that’s just the way I like it.
4) Free Storage
It’s great to have free storage of my vids and pics, though I have other places like Zooomr, but nobody ever goes there! I even use pics uploaded to facebook to write my blog posts.
5) Publicity
I use facebook to publicize events that I organise, from big to small events, whether it’s a party to a church event. I’ve managed to actually bring people from places far away to these said events through facebook, coz in the publicity pages we can also add flyers, videos, pictures to captivate invitees.
6) Twitter
I love tweeting, and I link my tweet to my Facebook status, so I don’t have to double update. Oh gosh, there should be another endless list to why I love Twitter!
7) Importing my blog
I can automatically import my blog to Facebook as notes. That way, I’m exposing my blog to an even bigger audience that initially did not exist. What better way to garner more readers.
8) Chat
At work, I have all my IMs on (using Digsby), not because I am too free, but because I like to be available when needed, even across the globe. This is how I stay in touch with my family too, esp. my sista, it doesn’t feel like I’ve been away for a year whenever I see her again. Anyways, I love it that Facebook has IM too, so I can also chat with people who won’t use MSN, Yahoo, Skype, or Gtalk, like my husband for eg.
9) Games
I love games like Scramble, not just because it’s a short fast game I can play whenever I’m bored, but because it also tests my brain at the same time I can challenge friends. I can actually play games with people I know, and not just any random person
10) As if the 9 above isn’t enough, do you really need a 10?? Ok, if forced to think of one, hhm, it gives me a place to waste time surfing when I’m wondering what websites to see! I’m not saying I have much time to waste though.
All that is said and done, I am not saying Facebook is greater than real life communication. There’s nothing more precious than being able to communicate LIVE, which should be done ALL THE TIME with much effort. Thank you very much.
Wow! I didn’t know you could do so much with facebook. How do you archive your blogs there?
Would you check out my blog http:www.karenmarzo.wordpress.com
