MySQL has gone away solution

Just over the last two days, I opened my website to find it’s layout messed up with scripts saying MySQL has gone away…what the heck? On my other blogs it was just the sidebar messed up, but on this blog, even the posts aren’t showing. This is bad news, especially since it happened today after the server migration, and today happened to be Malaysia’s public holiday, and on holidays, I don’t normally go online in the morning. So, I didn’t check my site until at nite. It was too late as I had already gotten the final warning email from advertisers that their adverts aren’t showing. Why do the spiders check at bad timings.

Thank goodness the solution is not very hard. My hastyhost found this solution and helped me with the upload the first time round. Today, I had to do it myself, using WIFI in a chinese food court, yea that’s how urgent it was to get it solved. I don’t understand though why it happens, when I did nothing to the site. Is it server side? Anyways, the solution site has different fixes for different versions. It is as easy as downloading your correct version of wp-db.php and uploading it to wp-includes/ and remember to overwrite the old file. It always worked for me, but just in case, the site also has the original version of wp-db.php. I think I better do an upgrade to WordPress 2.3 soon, or did I hear that 2.5 is coming out?
