Ibook battery exchange

So, my Ibook was one of those that had the possibly-overheating-self-explosive-made-by-Sony-battery. Sad, I was actually hoping I didn’t have to exchange my battery since it’s still in very good condition. I hardly ever use my Ibook without plugging in the main power, and certainly never carried it around in sleeping mode either.

However, afraid that my Ibook would explode soon, I had to get involved in the program reluctantly. The Apple support site was so Malaysian unfriendly, us Apple users here have to count on the forumers at MyMug to come out with the right steps. Here’s what I followed from Crash…
1. Point to https://support.apple.com/ibook_powerbook/batteryexchange/
2. Enter the details of your portable and battery serial number to verify that you are qualified for the exchange
3. Call Apple Toll Free at 1 800 803 638
4. Speak to the friendly OZ-accented tech support who will ask for your name and will verify your email address and products you own
5. Tell them you are qualified for the battery exchange program. They will ask for the battery model number and serial number to verify.
6. Get a Case ID
7. Quote this Case ID to your nearest Authorised Apple Service Centre and bring along your affected battery for exchange.
8. Wait 4 to 6 weeks for a replacement battery. Run around with a much lighter PowerBook and iBook.
9. Pray to God that it doesn’t take more than 6 weeks to arrive!

I’d like to note that the Customer Service also asked for the month I bought the Ibook which I did not have handy with my at the time I called. They also said that I must bring the whole Ibook to the Service Centre, and not just the battery.

This was definitely not in the Apple site. The Apple site just require you to key in your Computer Serial and your battery serial, and then all it tells you was whether you’re qualified or not, and tells you to go your Apple Authorised Service center…which by the way is not the same as the dealers ok. These are dedicated Service Centres which don’t only service Apple stuff, but all kinds of stuff as well.

Anyways, here’s the problem part. I live in Kajang, pretty far from all the service centres…the only one I know of is Highpoint..all the way in Subang. Not exactly a huge problem to get there, but a huge problem to get there when they are open.

So, even after following those great steps above, getting my case id and all, I have yet found the time to submit my battery to get the replacement. I wondered about those people that stayed in some other states that didn’t have any Service centres located there at all…what are they to do? I wish Apple Asia could just send us the replacements to the doorstep.
