I finally became a Switcher. Got my first Ibook. It’s a beautiful 12 inch baby, cost a burning RM3999 for which I had to take a loan from https://www.citrusloans.co.uk to get it. As it was the PC Fair in KLCC last weekend, (Aug 5-7), I thought surely there’d be some great deals. Some more this baby is a new model with all the improvements from the last not enough ram one. But I’m not here to review about the greatness of Ibook, but about how I finally got it. I tell you, it’s really not easy to buy something nowadays, even if you have the money!
So, on Friday Nite, I headed down to KL Convention Centre, the newly built supposedly grand and beautiful place for holding such functions, that’s next to Mandarin Hotel. I thought it would be a better change from the usual PWTC, coz the travel and walking time would be minimised. But boy was I wrong! That weekend was the weekend I walked the most in my life. I went down with my Loneshark but by the time we reach, the DJ already sounding that the PCfair hall gonna close. It was already 8.40pm at the time. Man, there were seas of people some more, all over the place. And this wasn’t even Saturday yet, and the set up of the entire PCFair just sucks. It was divided into 5 halls over two floors, we were forced to walk to the Ballroom which was upstairs, and then only come down to the Ground Floor, where most of the bargainable PC stuff were. Apple Store was right at the doorstep on the Ground Floor, so we quickly ask for that model. It seems they only have one left, and offered pretty interesting freebies that I may not get after the PC Fair. The salesman named Kenny, said the price will go up after the PC Fair (are you sure man? I think you bluff). But I ordered one anyways, coz got no money at that time in the pocket and got a free 256MB Ram upgrade. We told Kenny we’d be back tomorrow. Considering the huge number of people going in and out, we didn’t think carrying over RM4000 in cash is safe. So, my LoneShark decided to use ATM card mepscash, as encouraged by Kenny, coz you can also get more freebies aka an umbrella if you do that.
So, happily I went back home. Stopped by Sushi King and had a fantastic meal first. The next day, we went again. We left about 5.00pm which I thought was considerably early, and reached there not too late either. Then came the tiring part. The Mepscash machine didn’t wanna accept our Cards. Both bankcards also didn’t work?!! Who created this lousy thing? Anyways, we were forced to walk back to KLCC shopping centre to find some ATM machines. There were lines and lines of shoppers all making the ATM puke money out. Then only we realised, being Saturday and all, the ATM machine may not have the cash we need! True enough, we couldn’t withdraw that amount. Wondering why the MEPscash machine didn’t work, we called the number on the back of the ATM card, which supposedly is the card centre. However, the lousy customer care people keep asking us to call another number, and saying they cannot help. What is this? Why put your number at the back then?? Afte numerous calls, and walking back and forth KLCC and the Convention Centre, it was already near 9.00 pm then and no Ibook. It was really tiring and frustrating. We hadn’t had dinner and my backbone was about to crack. Plus, Kenny haven’t even put in the RAM. We were supposed to bring it back to Megamall Apple Centre to do that.
So, as we were being chased out by the DJ in PCFair, we had to decide to make another trip to Megamall the next day in order to pay and get the Ibook. So it was Sunday after church, and another trip to KL. Thank God nothing crazy went on this time, and I managed to get my baby finally! But you know what, if you’re a Ibook user, why the surface so easily scratchable. Why like that? I was so careful with it, but I already have many scratches especially on the bottom. Regardless, I love it and I’m just wondering what to call it.
Hey, tell me where can I find Free HotSpot?:P
Now you’re a switcher. Very soon you’ll be a believer. Mac’s the pwn!
12” is big enough ah?
i’m already a believer i think. ya 12” is good enuff for me. it’s already so heavy too. not good if one has bad sight.
Hahar Thanks Dave for the very useful tips! I just found out about two finger scrolling last nite. Saves so much time! will try out these things you recommend once I get my ibook 😛
eh, leona..
u bought that in pc fair, any speacial deals? freebies or anything..
The 12” no problem rite? Im going get 1 soon too~ (hopefully)
ya got special deal, onimusha. i got a free additional 256mb ram, that makes whooping 768mb ram in all. some more it’s the more pricey KTA ram made for Apple. and also a third party USB optical mouse. They had 3 kinds of promo. First is this one, which i think is more worth, 2nd is free Mac mouse and a backpack, and third is Free backpack and thumbdrive. There was even a lucky draw but I just got an OSX mousepad. I didn’t face any probs for 12” so far, coz this is the new model rite. The old one I knew had some probs with batt and all. But it’s all cool so far. My advice is get it ASAP, before the price hike. Who knows. Rite now, the demand is more than the available stock, as I heard.
